Interesting position here as it's Homecoming for SJose and Hawaii is coming in off a bye week.....I love bye weeks. I haven't heard if RB Brandon Rutley is in our out for tonights game.
SJ opponents are 19-13 including Stanford and a close loss last week to a "decent" BYU team. Hawaii's opponents 9-18.
SJ on offense is a concern although 4 of their 6 games have been on the road so far. #91 in offense, #80 passing, #99 in scoring, #108 in passing efficency and #79 in turnover margin.
SJ special teams is a concern as well. #92 in punt return avg, #82 in ko return avg and #69 in punting avg. This is a receipe for losing the field position game to Hawii.
SJ on defense is a huge concern. #94 rushing, #93 in passing efficency defense, #92 in total defense, #119 in sacks and #119 in tackles for a loss.....not a great sign for pass happy Hawaii.
Hawaii on offense is typical Hawaii offense. Throw a ton and run a little.....although I see Hawaii running against the SJ defense a little more than people might expect.
On offense Hawaii is #25 in scoring, #8 in passing, #38 in passing efficency, but #110 in rushing but it doesn't matter. What concerns me at first glance is Hawaii is #100 in sacks allowed, although with SJ #119 in sacks I'm not real concerned. SR QB Moniz is fun to watch and puts up big numbers....15tds to 1 pick is amazing regardless who you have played and in his career in 29 games he has thrown for 68 scores vs. 26 picks annd has rushed for 9 more tds. Moniz has improved year after year.
Special Teams and turnovers for Hawii is average, although as much as they throw and as many times as Moniz has been sacked I'm ok with them being ranked #51 in turnover margin. They are below average on punt returns at #86 and average KO retuns at #54. I'm not impressed by Freshman Kicker Tyler Haden as he's missed 2pats and only 2 of 4 fg's.
Hawaii on Defense....against lesser teams they put up good numbers. Oveall they are #18 against the run, #27 in total defense, #3 in sacks and #37 in tackles for a loss. Must keep in mind that teams can throw against Hawaii but mainly because they are trying to keep up with Hawaii's offense.
Overall and Pick:
A bye week to me is much more important that a Home Coming game. With that said I wouldn't touch the 1H against a Home Coming team as they may come out more motivated early before reality sets in.
I'll take Hawaii's 3rd year starting Senior QB Moniz and his experience over a 1st year starting Senior QB Matt Faulkner. In my opinion this is where the biggest gap in talent falls and I just don't see San Jose St stopping Hawaii's offense and I don't see them keeping up either.
Hawaii Warriors -5.5

With you on this one. Seemed like everyone was taking Cal last night because the line was so low but I really like a team coming off a bye and San Jose is coming off back to back road games. I also like an offense like Hawaii's having 2 weeks to prepare.

Regarding the Over Under, I rarely play these but the last 3 meetings haven't come close to 57pts however Hawaii has gone over 60 last 4.......and this is why I don't play over/under.......others are much better than me at o/u. BOL whichever way you go
