Had a Great week last week both in college and pro.
Tonight:
Mississippi St comes into this game off of a heartbreaking loss to Auburn. A game where Bulldog QB Chris Relf was denied at the goal line for the game tying touchdown. It was a tough loss to swallow however the team seems really geared up for tonight's 1st home game against LSU. "It's been a quick turnaround for us this week," said MSU head coach Dan Mullen. "We're ready to go to get out there on the field and get playing. We've played some Thursday night games in the past and I think our guys know how to prepare for this type of game. We're ready to go out there and play. We finally get to play our home opener and we're excited about that." Currently the Bulldogs have the top offense in the SEC averaging 588 yards per game and 46.5 points. MSU has gained most of those yards on the ground with 321 (most in the SEC) to go along with 267 through the air, which ranks third in the league. Relf has done damage in both of those categories completing 61.1-percent of his passes for 397 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also has carried 40 times for 157 more yards. Senior running back Vick Ballard boasts the top rushing yardage in the conference averaging 150.5 yards a game on the ground. He has rushed 31 times for 301 yards and four touchdowns over the first two games averaging 9.7 yards per carry. So as you can see folks this team can move the football.
The question is however can they do it against this vaunted LSU defense. I'm here to tell you they can!! Please don't be fooled by the LSU-Oregon game. Oregon's finesse spread offense sputtered against the Tigers due to costly turnovers and star RB Le Michael James' cramping issues not to mention Oregon was breaking in new starters on the Oline. This right here is a recipe for disaster against LSU especially when your offense relies on speed (East, West) instead of power (North, South). The Bulldogs on the other hand play a different version of the spread offense where they mostly rely on their power downhill running game. Now against LSU whose linebackers are a bit undersized I expect Miss St to move the football with great success. LSU's best lb is Ryan Baker who is "listed " at 6'0 230, I forsee see him struggling tonight against this power running game. The others are Minter and Hatcher, Minter who was been ineffective his freshman year and thus far with only 7 tackles in two games and Hatcher is undersized at 215 pounds. I expect Miss St to exploit this weakness and pound the rock with success tonight. On offense LSU has not been spectacular they did have success running the football against Oregon however Oregon's front 7 was extremely inexperienced losing lots of talent from last years bomb squad. I really don't see them having the same success against this Bulldog squad. Miss St will stack the line against LSU and will make Jarrett "pick six" Lee beat them. Fellas this guy is a bum and against the Miss St secondary who is very talented expect a couple interceptions from Mr Lee tonight.
Guys the wrong team is favored here tonight. Miss St has a more potent offense that can beat you either through their power running game or through the air, something Relf has really improved his game on. LSU's offense on the other hand is one dimensional and if they are forced to pass the ball with "Pick 6" Lee, Miss St clearly has the advantage. The Bulldogs are looking to make a splash tonight in front of their home fans and end this 11 game losing streak to the Tigers. Tonight is their night more than ever to make that happen and I will be on Miss St in this spot. Bulldogs win but I will take the points just in case.
