Thoughts from Week 1
- I never liked the card for Week 1 which is why I had just 7 plays, I did add a few late but wasn't around to post so those won't be shown or discussed, I see some good matchups ahead for week 2 and this figures to be a much better card for my eye
- kudos to the staff of Utah St for having their guys ready to play against the defending National Champs, they came about as close as they could have to winning without actually winning, special teams play (onside kick) will haunt them for a while, Auburn's defense will have to shape up for SEC play or it will be a tough year for the defending champs
- Boise St just continues to win their big games, playing in SEC country in the back yard of the Bulldgos was a tough task but they made it look easy, they were clearly a better team on both sides of the ball and certainly better coached, Georgia figures to start 0-2 and the folks in Athens will be calling for Richt's head once again, it is time for a coaching change there in my opinion
- not sure what the TCU defensive backs were doing Friday, they certainly weren't playing football, we all knew the Frogs lost many key players from last year's team but I had no idea their corners forgot how to cover, their offense rolled through Baylor's swiss cheese defense but they had no answer for RGIII on Friday Night, that is a big win for Baylor but they still need a defense if they plan to contend against big time teams
- LSU got a nice win over Oregon as expected, the Ducks played so bad and handed the Tigers the game that I didn't actually get to see how good this Tiger team is going to be, when you have that many turnovers, dropped passes and penalties any top 25 team is going to beat you, that is as poor of a showing from a big time program that I saw this weekend, I have a feeling Chip will rally the troops, he will convince them that winning the rest of their games will be enough to back in the hunt and they will start that quest by burying Nevada next week, that spread can't be high enough, I'm taking Oregon minus anything
- I bet on Stanford and felt great about them blowing out San Jose State, I watched the game and wasn't really impressed them to be honest, they are not the 6th or 7th best team in the country, they have no team speed and I will look for spots to fade them the rest of the year, Luck is good but I don't see much else on that team
- I think we can all agree that East Carolina games will be going over for a while, much like last year, the Gamecocks offense has some nice threats but come on, they just carved up the Pirates in the 2nd half, look for the momentum to continue this week in Athens, SC is better than Georgia all over the place, I'll be taking SC at - 3 or less this week, sorry Mark, you are now 0-2
- Louisville is young and they don't seem to have much, I'll be looking to a Florida Intl play as a dog during the week, a straight up win by Fl Intl wouldn't suprise me at all and I kind of expect it
- Kentucky is putrid, what a terrible offense that team has, they better gear up for a dead last finish in the SEC because it is most likely coming, gonna be a long year in the bluegrass fans
- UCLA & UH played a very entertaining game, the Bruins were the better team but the Cougs did enough to pick up the win at home, Case K looked very good and the crowd got them through this one, a couple UCLA blunders made UH spread backers happy as well, it may be a while before Houston loses if they can shape up the defense just a little
- BYU almost lost their game against Ole Miss, they were certainly the better team but they did much like Oregon were self-destructing out there, a big trip to Austin this week to face the Longhorns and a hard fought Cougars win 2 weeks in a row wouldn't be a shock, Texas once again doesn't look to have much
- congrats to Skip Holtz and USF fans, that was a nice way to start the season, winning a 9 hour game in South Bend, the Irish have alot of hype surrounding them but not much speed, it won't be long before we start seeing more of the freshman phenom QB in South Bend, Crist and Rees just don't cut the mustard, might as well work in the youngster for experience and the next coming years
- the Cuse pulled a rabbit of the hat to beat Wake, tough loss for the Deacs losing their QB and that big lead, they were certainly more prepared to play but that wasn't enough, congrats to the Cuse for winning the game and starting the season with a win
- watching Indiana lose to Ball St was nice, especially since I backed the Hoosiers laying points, not a very good bet on my part, the Hoos should come out with a victory over that Hoosier team this upcoming week, I'll be looking for a UVA number there when the odds come out
- Mizzou is trash, no way they shouldn't have covered that game against Miami Oh, Franklin looked like a deer in the headlights and he better get ready for a solid ASU defense this week or Mizzou will be coming home with a loss
- Memphis is still Memphis, always nice when they give us a freebie fading Memphis, if I could just bet Memphis games all the time I might win some money, oh well, wishing thinking
- we had some cappers that did a nice job this week as usual, congrats to you guys and keep up the good work
more thoughts coming, gonna catch some sleep and prepare for the games tomorrow just in case
