Thursday:
WAKE FOREST -1.5 (1.25 UNITS) - Clemson's OL has been its Achilles' heel and Wake has the most takeaways in the country over the last 1+ seasons. Willing to overlook last week's flat spot against Navy but still scratching my head over Clemson's collapse against Maryland at home particularly after Virginia shutout Maryland 31-0 last week. Quotes from Maryland and Alabama players after games with Clemson noted that Clemson is soft this season. This is Clemson's first true road games this season. Only hesitancy here is the status of WF K/P Sam Swank, who is one of the nation's top kickers, and is questionable.
UAB +18.5 (1 UNIT) - Houston is 0-6 ATS their last 6 as favorites and their defense is quite vulnerable allowing 35 points a game against Division 1 opponents. UAB quarterback Joe Webb checks in at 12th in total offense and is the second leading rusher nationally among quarterbacks and should be getting back top WR Frantrell Forrest, who had 3 TD's and 720 all purpose yards his first 4 games this season. This is a big number to cover with a porous defense.
Saturday:
UTAH STATE +14 (2.5 UNITS) - This Utah State team is better than their 1-4 record. They have had an impossible games against Oregon, Utah and BYU yet have shown they can move the ball. They struggled to run the ball last season but have 5 rushers over 4 ypc this season. Even with the much tougher schedule this season, Utah State has averaged 327 yards per game while SJ State has averaged 311. USU QB Borel is running an effective option and his ability to run the ball. SJ State is running a very conservative offense and has struggled in several games to rush the ball. Against Cal-Davis they had 24 carries for 42 yards. Against Stanford, they had 54 yards on 35 carries and against Hawaii they managed 85 yards on 39 carries. Meanwhile, they seem to lack the home run punch in their passing game. SJ State was an incredible 23 for 26 in passing against Stanford led by QB Reed, yet only managed 10 points and 165 yards passing as they rely on a short passing attack. The last three seasons has seen SJ beat USU by 3, by 7 and Utah State winning by 7. Two TD's seems overly generous in this matchup..
