Play of Day 96-82 (+39.013 units)
Maroth was absolutely pathetic before getting injured early in August. Thsi is ugly. In his last 5 starts, he lasted just 16 1/3 innings......drum roll.....and allowed 45 hits and 37 runs...yues, that is not a typo! 45 hits and 37 runs in 16 2/3 innings. He had two brief stints in Double A on August 27th and 29th and in a combined 4 1/3 innings he allowed 5 hits and 4 runs. It's a very small sample, but Pirates hitters are 19 for 40 against Maroth for a .475 average.
For the Bucs, Bryan Bullington has very mediocre stuff. In 150 2/3 innings in Triple A, he has just 89 whiffs. Over the past 3 month, his ERA is close to 5.50 as he had an outstanding April and solid May. In his last 3 Triple A starts, he pitched 17 1/3 innings and allowed 20 hits and 12 runs.
I see two vulnerable pitchers and some potential big bats!

I meant Triple A and the appearances were 8/27 and 8/31. It was a combined 4 1/3 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs and 3 walks. I can't imagine he lasts long and the Cards' pen has thrown 14 2/3 innings the past 3 nights.
