just curious .. but why doesnt verlander come in and just pitch a inning or so? or another really good starting pitcher?
if bullpens are generally bad, why dont they just put in starting pitchers who are good, in the game?
It is about saving a pitcher's arm and don't want he get hurt. He will wear out soon If he threw around 100 pitches tonight and do it again tomorrow . However, a manager can use him as a reliever in some special cases like world series.

some mlb teams are completely fine with losing? its just about the long haul winning 2 games out of every 3 times they play? going .500 in a 4 game series?

no im not kidding at all pitchers throw side sessions at about 70 percent and the great ones can still be a lot more effective at 70 pct than a lot of turd relievers

Today's sports in general are way too protective of their players probably because of the money they invested. And the players are way too protective of their own body. The objective of any sporting event is to win, but today it's become a total business.
They'll say medically this, physically that....
What's the result of being over protective? I see more and more players going to DL these days and thier life-span has become considerably shortened.
Mentality overcomes anything. Being too protective actually hurts mentality. Of course, there are union issues too. It's sad to see today's players in all professional sports are so weak mentally. They're paid millions of dollars. Only reason they're paid that much is to play for the fans out there.
We'll never ever gonna see iron men like Cal Ripken Jr., Lou Gehrig, Steve Garvey, Nolan Ryan, to name a few again.
