Mariners middle of the lineup now is Morse, Morales, Ibanez, and Bay.

Athletics get: John Jaso

Nationals get: A.J. Cole, Blake Treinen, and a player to be named later from the Athletics.

Dont understand this trade for hte Mariners.

Morse is horrendous in the field and now they have 3 DH (Morse/Ibanez/Morales)

Thing Seattle is so desperate for some pop taht they are not even worring about defensive/position issues for these guys.

Mariners have had some solid pitching for a while now. Why not try to go out and get pop? What do they have to lose?

For people who don't understand this move, it's pretty simple really. Jaso wasn't going to play for us any more...Montero moves away from DH to catcher (probably close to full-time) with last year's first-round pick, Mike Zunino, rising through the system quickly.

Depending on what happens with Smoak (personally I'm hoping he's "figured it out" enough to stick with us at 1B) Morales might be the first baseman or DH....Morse does suck in the field but defense hasn't exactly got us anywhere lately, so why not make this move? Don't be surprised if either Bay or Ibanez gets cut before the year starts. If not one or either could be a decent platoon or role player, but I GUARANTEE neither plays full time or ahead of Morse, and definitely not ahead of Morales, barring injury.

So basically this was Morse for a nice player in Jaso, but he was pushed out of his role with us and isn't some huge/insurmountable loss, anyway, so as much as I usually hate Mariner moves, I actually like this one!
