7th best record in A.L.

only 9 teams outside their division. NINE. 6 had a better record. You cannot be much worse as a playoff team. How many times did they get to play the Royals (13-5), Twins (10-8), Indians (8-10), and White Sox (10-5)? They go 41-28 against their division and 47-46 against the rest of the league. Rays and Angels are better squads imo.

Now they get to toss Verlander twice in 5 games and probably beat the A's. Hilarious.

Anyone thoughts?

Detroit was terrible on the road this year, not sure why, but they had 50 wins at home, 2nd most after the yankees (and tied with many others) I think they take the 1st 2 games at home and are able to beat the As in 3 or 4

Talk all you want about records, etc. This is the sports world we live in today. You're taught to beat and be better than teams in your division. Look at the Arizona Cardinals a few years back, they finished 8-8 and made/almost won the Super Bowl. Who cares what the records are? The objective is to make the playoffs. Because when the playoffs start every team is 0-0.

I can totally see gearing up for your division in the NFL if the few teams you happen to play twice a year each have similar strengths, but get real about you're taught to beat your division - that being white sox, twins, indians, royals. The Tigers are fools gold; if they couldn't toss an absolute stud out there twice I'd say I'm taking the A's regardless of line. In fact, that may be even more reason to take the A's, they may get it done in 4.

It's not what your taught, it's if the playoff structure motivating the teaching is right, which I'm not really behind either. Baseball isn't football, having 1 lights out starter is a huge advantage in a 5 game series, where as having one dominante player on a otherwise mediocre football team isn't as big of an advantage in the playoffs.

That being said, Verlander has really only been lights out at home lately anyway. A's in 5.

Tigers went 3-4 against the Angels this season.

Tigers went 5-2 against the Rays if all you wanna do is talk about head to head. Say what you want about AL Central and bashing the Tigers whatever....the goal is to make the playoffs and WIN YOUR DIVISION. Hence, why the Tigers are in the playoffs and not in the one game wild card. If you have a beef...don't have a beef with the Tigers...have a beef with Bud Selig and his format.

i just posted facts. i have no beef with anything, i simply find it amusing that 6 of the 9 teams in their league, outside of their division, have a better record than your Detroit Tigers.

I am on Tigers series minus 150, seems fair to me.  Got an ace and a MVP and Homefield.  Oakland had to battle to get in and fly out.  Your money, your choice.

^^^that's what makes Tigers -150 the play to you? i'm not going to bet either side, but if that's your reasoning i feel this has to be more of a feel play / action bet. If you think you have a better idea of how Verlander, Cabrera, where the game's will be played, and Oakland's recent stretch should factor into the series price than the books do, more power to you. I wish you luck on your play.

I was as critical as anybody of this underachieving Tigers team this summer. That said they are playing their best ball right now. Boesch on the Bench, contributions form Young, Dirks, Garcia, and Berry when called upon- the line up is longer than it has been for most of the year. The difference though in this series is the rotation. Give me the experienced crew of Verlander, Fister, Scherzer and Sanchez over a young and talented A's bunch. Tigers in 4.

...

a's have pitching that should not be underestimated, 2nd in AL in team ERA...they got spanked a bit couple wks ago at copa but it's a staff that has the capability of shutting teams down...

tigers have a station-to-station offence that quite frankly is hit-or-miss but they have a huge edge opening at home where they've been tough to beat

looks like a coin-flip to me, staying away

AL Central: may be the dog's breakfast of divisions but somebody had to win it...or, in the case of the white sox, lose it...

records dont matter for garbage when it comes to post season baseball , hell if you look at it the teams with the worst records going in usually win the fukn thing , the tigers are a scary team right now they got hot at exactly the right time and have the best hitter going , just look at the cards record last 2 ws wins , check how many times a team with the best record going into the postseason has won it all in the last 10 years.
