Writing is on the wall in my opinion. Josh Hamilton in Free Agency to the BoSox.
Maybe if they had gotten Ethier in this deal as well but they just seem to want to flip everything over. Simply getting Hamilton wouldn't really make sense.

Hammy hits a lot of HRs to straight center field which is a lot easier task in Arlington than Fenway. This year he has only 4 opposite field HRs. Like most lefties, his power numbers will suffer in Fenway.

They have to re-sign Ellsbury though right? They can't let him walk. He is too young and talented. Better than Crawford imo.
Anyways as an A's fan who could careless about this deal, I think the Red Sox came out golden. Getting rid of 3 massive contracts with only having to pay a little in return and also get two of the top 3 pitching prospects in the Dodgers organization.
Ned Colletti has been given money by the Dodgers new ownership and told to go for it. They wanted big names because they are in talks for a Billion dollar TV deal with Fox.
I guess Punto is a big name but I have my doubts. He is not in his prime anymore. He just doesnt have his legs like he once had. His range is not as big as it use to be. He also lost his pop that he never had to begin with.
Colleti went for Blanton and that was a fail. He went for League and that was a fail. He went for Victorino and that so far has been a fail. He went for Ramirez and although he is hitting homeruns his average is going nowhere. A-Gon over Loney is a HUGE upgrade. Not even close. Loney just sucks and A-Gon is a pure hitter but Beckett oh boy and Crawford. I don't know. Dodgers really won't be able to do anything for a long time to come with those contracts and Kemp and Ethier's along with Hanley's.

Crawford was a real gamer and consummate pro for his many years in Tampa. I really liked him. But for 2 years he's spent more time on the DL than the field, and he's not getting any younger.
No idea why the Sox would take Loney in this trade. I suppose they had to, to make the Dodgers happy. "OK, we'll take Beckett off your hands, but only if you take Loney off ours."

They will let Loney walk at the end of the season. He will be a free agent.
Fenway would have been ideal for a power hitting left handed bat at 1st base like Prince Fielder but they missed out on that boat plus the amount of money these guys are receiving is just crazy.

I seriously have my doubts about Punto. Not in his prime anymore and his range is limited. Not sure what the Dodgers are thinking. Sure he is a big name but are they acquiring him for what he HAS done in the illustrious major league career or what he WILL do this season?
Only time will tell. Only thing I know for sure is that he hasn't lost any pop in his bat since it was never there to begin with.

Dodgers are now hamstrung as all of there money are tied into 5 players. Kemp, Ethier. Hanley. A-Gon, Crawford must produce a World Series win for the Boys in Blue within the next 5 years to make this trade worth it.

I really Like AJ Ellis at C. Guy is one of the most underrated players in the league. He always finds a way to get on base. That is very rare from the C position.
