#1 Posted: 6/18/2012 12:51:37 PM Tonight, Arrieta is on the mound for Baltimore. Everytime I see his name my first instinct is to bet on the other team and the over.
That got me wondering. There are all kinds of threads on here asking who the best pitchers are... but who are the WORST starting pitchers in MLB.
Not necessarily this month, or this week, but in general. Does the team play a factor into it or can a pitcher just suck regardless?
I will throw Jake Arrieta out there to get things started. Anyone else? |

#3 Posted: 6/18/2012 12:57:07 PM Eh, Jake has good stuff, but the last 2 years have been dreadful for him. I would def not call him one of the worst. He can shut down a team for 0-2 runs on a great day.
Worst in my opinion:
Jeremy Guthrie (this year) Jamie Moyer Jason Marquis

Guthrie is terrible. He would've (should've) given up atleast 7 or 8 to Detroit yesterday without the rain delay. And Detroits O is terrible this yr. |

#5 Posted: 6/18/2012 1:03:03 PM If we're going by this year Lincecum and Marquis off the top of my head. I can give Guthrie a pass because of the park he pitches in. He's not as bad as hit numbers indicate.

#6 Posted: 6/18/2012 1:03:40 PM Check out Noesi's away stats. Terrible. Another one was Minor, at least initially.
Some favorite fade material under the right requisites: Matusz, Blanton, Kendrick, Masterson, and Ervin Santana. |

#8 Posted: 6/18/2012 1:13:19 PM Also Freddy Garcia. I faded him every game last 2 years. Now he's in the pen. Hopefully one of their starters goes. Down and he comes back. Can't wait |

#9 Posted: 6/18/2012 1:13:42 PM Seems like Hochevar gets lit up every time he steps to the mound. And Humber is a bottom 5 pitcher after the no-hitter. I've never seen such a fluke performance

#10 Posted: 6/18/2012 1:25:11 PM Jays in trade talks allegedly with rockies to land guthrie
......darn
some guys who feel left out of this convo:
Aaron cook is pretty much done
randy wells is atrocious, even for the cubs
Jair Jurrjens is a BB machine
Blake beaven is a ham sandwich
Kevin Correia is perpetually day dreaming on the mound.
for comparisons sake; worst WAR for SP this year: guthrie -0.6 marquis -0.6 jurrjens -0.5 Correia -0.5 Noesi -0.4 |

#13 Posted: 6/18/2012 1:31:24 PM It changes almost every day but Marquis, Guthrie and Blackburn have pretty well cemented their positions in the bottom 5.

Whats irionic is that I came up with both pitchers using the following:
minimum 10 starts , team record with starter and most units lost
and lincecum is the worst going 2-12 and dan haren is the biggest money burner. |

#22 Posted: 6/18/2012 3:08:25 PM Jeff Francis, hands down the worst in the majors.
I like the thread, it gives us cappers the opportunity to vent on some SP's that cost us dough in the past

Hey easy on that...As a Yankees fan, definitely don't need a starter to go down right now while they are rolling!!!
