An observation on the Yankees

Normally guys when the Yankees need a top pitcher they usually just sign him. Most thought the Yankees would be in the running for C.J. Wilson, Yu Darvish,Mark Buherle, and Edwin Jackson. Instead they trade for Michael Pineda. Now i think Pineda is really good. But my observation is are the Yankees going "cheap"? Or making the 'Sabermetric" moves? before all the yankees fans try to rip my guts out its not a criticism but its an observation. they've been doing at the last few years. Your thoughts?

I think they're going a little cheaper. And they have been for a couple years now. Not that their payroll has dropped in a dramatic fashion, but they've tended to shy away from just shelling out mega cash for guys now. I actually think Wilson was the one guy they might go after, but they've stayed thhis new course.

can't blame them they want to be under the luxury tax so we'll see. Pineda costs this year money wise to the yankees a bag of cheetos and a sprite so He could be their number 2 guy but i think he'll be the number 3 guy behind sabathia and nova

They are going cheaper. Everyone has laughed when Cashman has talked about their cap in the past few years but they really do have one.

Plus...none of the pitchers on the market were worth what they were asking. CJ Wilson initially asked for $100 million and the Yanks never took him seriously after that, declining his agent's request to meet at Yankee Stadium to talk.

Plus, getting Pineda and expecting him to be as good as he should be for years to come allows them to buy bats in the future. And great pitching is becoming so much harder to find nowadays.

great pitching is expensive. I like Wilson but not for 100 million dollars.

The last time they spent big was the season that followed a bunch of money coming off the books (Giambi, Abreu, Mussina, Pavano and Pettitte signed for much less). They don't just go on big splurges to go on big splurges. They do it when they have space and major needs.

Signing Pineda was a brilliant move by Cashman. He got a younger pitcher than those who were available. They're going cheaper and younger. I'm going to a Yankees-Tigers game this year...not sure if I'm going in June or August yet. I wouldn't mind seeing this guy pitch.

Talking about brilliant moves...Doug Fister was sure one.

 I like him with the angels here's my projected angels rotation

1. Weaver

2. Haren

3.Santana

4. Wilson

5. ???

Wilson on this team is probably the #3 or #4 still angels rotation not too shabby Him being 3 or 4 in my opinion depends on Ervin Santana

Yeah Sparky....same thing the Tigers were doing to get players off of the books as well. Players such as: Sheffield, Guillen (solid ball player but was always hurt), Dontrelle Willis, etc.

Doug Fister was a wonderful pickup. The guy can field his position too. Something the Tigers really haven't had since Kenny Rogers. Damn 2006 World Series.

when they got him my wife texted me saying the tigers traded for a mariners starter. I thought how in the hell did they get felix hernandez? Then she wrote Doug Fister. I wrote WHO???? He pitched very well especially in the postseason. Hopefully he pitches that well for a whole season. And hopefully the league won't catch up with him. Trust me i know who Doug Fister is now

That was a magical year. But hey nobody predicted before that season they'd win the pennant. Not even Tigers fans who wear rose colored glasses.

Packers....I would go like this:

1) Weaver - Would have won Cy Young if it wasn't for Verlander.

2) Wilson - I like a three game series with a R-L-R

3) Haren - Fits in nicely after Wilson.

4) Santana

5) Jerome Williams

Well...he'll have to do a lot more to get a Gio type deal. But this is new territory for the Yanks. When was the last time they had such a young pitching star? Hughes and Joba never lived up to the hype so I really have no idea how they go about this. But they usually are very smart with their decisions.

honestly edge Mike Scoiscia has an embarrassment of riches. It doesn't matter 1-4 what order. When Wilson or Haren is your #3 your doing well

As far as the batting order goes...I would go with the following:

1) Aybar

2) Kendrick

3) Pujols

4) Morales - hopefully healthy if not...I'm not sure where to put Abreu

5) Hunter

6) Callaspo

7) Wells

8) Iannetta

9) Bourjos

Too bad there won't be five teams in the playoffs this year. Next year could be: AL Central Champion, Yankees, Red Sox, or Rays, Rangers, Angels.

I love watching Angels games on MLB Extra Innings with their FSN broadcast team. Now I'll really love it because of the star power this team has. With a really good manage and al of this talent, I like the odds of it being a fun season in Anaheim.

actually edge they could still get the 2nd wildcard in for this season but MLB and their network partners have until march 1st. Or it will be in 2013
