Does anyone feel like Baseball is just a joke of a sport now-a-days?

Just being a Cleveland fan, I just don't even see whats the point of rooting for a team like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Cincinatti, San Diego, Arizona, Houston, Milwaukee, Florida, Washington, Seattle, Oakland, Baltimore, and a few others, i mean do you get my point?  Well here it is......

Those teams above mentioned have literally no shot to compete next year, the salary of a few teams out there are just ridiculous, and I just dont see what is the point of bothering if your a fan of any of the above mentioned teams. This league has just turned into a complete joke and somethign needs to be done about it, or more people are going to catch on and get turned off by this.

I mean its not just the yankees, congrats to them, even though A-rod is a asshole and cant hit a 75 MPH Pedro pitch to save his life in october/november, I was happy for him, hes a great player and he deserves a ring.

I think the above mentioned teams have a one year miracle window to hit then you can forget it, no dynasties working up there.(Hence, Tampa Bay) Honestly, this sport has really turned me off from a fans view, and something should be done about it, or alot more will feel the same.

Now tell me...if this was 2007 right now, you know for a FACT that you would have Tampa Bay as one of those teams that have "literally no shot to compete next year". Am I correct on that?

Why won't Florida do anything? They had a really good season this year and aren't downgrading by trading everyone.

Seattle certainly has dished out the money in the past to get players. Weren't they dead last when they spent over $100 million not to long ago?

The National League West is a dogfight each season, or at least it goes down to one every year.

What happened to the Reds? Everyone was SO high on them this season? Why did everyone jump off their bandwagon. They have great young talent.

Just 2 years ago I'm sure you weren't "turned off". The Indians last season had Lee AND Sabathia in the same rotation. They could have gotten a whole lot more than they did for both players to be honest. 2 bad seasons and now your just "turned off"? I guess it shows what kind of fan you are. At least jpero stays true to his team.

Now sure...it's easy to say that as a Yankee fan...but I also bet with all those teams who have lost their fans, probably more than half of them didn't just "lose" their fans. I'm sure they became frontrunners of other teams. I don't condemn that, but it is how it goes. Baseball will NEVER have a salary cap. The money that the Yankees give other teams because of the tax could allow them to sign big name free agents. However...they choose to stash that money away. Steinbrenner...he just doesn't do that. He surely makes more than others, but he doesn't hold back to dish out and win a championship.

I'm sure the Indians have fans. Don't they have the longest consecutive sellout streak ever? I'm sure if Dolan dished out the money, the fans would come, the money would come, and there wouldn't be as much of a problem. However...he is a Dolan and being a Knicks fan, I know James Dolan is a piece of shit so maybe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Interesting man, I hear you, but its not about me, its about everyone in small markets eventually, even a bunch of florida games had 5 t o 10K in the stands this year and they were actually decent.

Sparky I really like you and anything you say I take the right way, I hear your points, bottom line is that somethign really needs to be done. Certain teams might hit a one or two even year window but thats about all I see there and I dont think its right.

Well Florida is simply not a good place for baseball. Just ask the Rays. They only had fans in the playoffs. Nobody ever came to see them. And the Marlins also never attract fans. They're building a new stadium for no reason to be honest. Nobody is going to watch them.

I understand...a salary cap makes a season more interesting. But it's baseball, it will never be changed because Selig is hard headed, and that's just the way it is.

From what I remember, you told me that MLB is losing raitings every year. So what I got from that is you think an MLB salary cap would make it better. And how would the Yankees have a bigger advantage if they had a cap?

Fine...your right...nobody can compete with the Yankees because of their location and owner. They get more revenue than anybody else. They will go out and get whoever they want because they have the resources. And finally...I could care less because I am a fan of this "Evil Empire" along with the 3 million people who went to the parade yesterday. I'm just going to sit back and watch the Yankees roll again next season and that's all I'm going to say about that.

Anyone can make it to the World Series any given year.

Jpero....my question for you is, What would you like the Yankees to do? Not improve?......you clearly have a problem with the system. Send Bud Selig and the MLBPA death threats, send the YES network 2 sticks of dynamite for not sharing their revenue. Regardless the Yankees will continue to spend, improve their team, and improve their chances at more titles.  Suck it up sweetpea.

People all over this country are losing interest in baseball.....Yankee fans can't/won't see that and don't care. It's not the Yanks fault......they are playing within the "rules"....I don't blame them. And most people are complaing about NY because they are symbolic about what is wrong. Keep in mind the Yanks outspend "big market" teams by $50-60 million/year.....small market teams CAN'T compete without suffering irrepairable financial harm. That's a good system, particularly when the goal of the Yanks is not to put KC/Pittsburgh/Minnesota out of business....at least it shouldn't be the goal.

Make no mistake, baseball has a big problem and it is getting bigger every year. People who enjoy baseball should hope for change.....I'm on this forum everyday and I follow baseball.....but I quit "caring" about it 10 years or more ago. If I didn't gamble I wouldn't watch two minutes of baseball a year. The game is broken for most of the franchises in MLB....I think it's too bad that fans of the game, regardless of who they pull for don't want it to be fixed.
