Washington played very poorly yesterday and almost came away with a win. They were 8/35 for a poor .229 batting average. Their starter allowed 10 hits and 5 earned runs in 3,1 innings pitched and their bullpen wasn't any better allowing 4 earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched picking up a loss in the process.
That tells me all I need to know about the Braves. The consecutive series against Phillies, Red Sox and Yankees had a major impact on them and despite their winning streak, they are bound to hit the wall in the next few days.
Historically they play bad when in D.C. and they are also 9-21 in last 30 when trying to win consecutive road games in a same series. Hanson has been great for them, beating NYY and Boston back-to-back and not allowing any runs in last three starts but he is going to get rocked soon. In his first start this season he was going for strikeouts and he had 5 of them with only 1 BB, but he allowed 6 earned runs and 3 home runs. Since then he changed his ways trying to avoid hits and issue walks instead. That has been working very well for him as he allowed 9 hits in over 17 innings pitched in last three starts. However, giving away many walks is going to be punished sooner rather than later. He allowed 16 of them in last 4 starts and his # of pitches per inning increased. He was close to 100 pitches in recent starts without going into the 7th inning in a single game. Surprisingly, Washington is #3 in the majors in walks just behind TB and NYY. They will get their share of walks today and that could be the key stat in this game.
Lannan is pitching like a true ace for Washington. He has won his last three decisionsand Washington won 4 of his last 5 starts. His era is 2.19 in last 5 starts and 2.02 at home this season. He is a ground ball pitcher and Atlanta is one of the NL top ground out teams. In his last 4 starts against the Braves, Lannan allowed 5 earned runs in 26 innings pitched for an era of 1.73, allowing no runs twice and 1 run once.
WASHINGTON -1.5 +217 IS MY GAME OF THE MONTH !!!

Lot's of action on this game and that's not something we usually see in a game involving any of these two teams. Needless to say that Atlanta is getting a lot more of money. If there is a 'trap' game today, it is this one right here !!!

according to sportsdatabase.com, the braves are 2-13 when on 5+ game winning streak and not favorite of -260. this is atlantas longest winning streak this season and last time they won 5 in a row they followed that win with a 11-1 loss in may of 2008.

Lincecum had 1 CG in first 69 starts (2.5 seasons) and then he had 3 CG in last 4 starts, including two straight in last two outings. Combine that fact and SF's 13-0 win last night and you'll get a -200 line and the whole world on the Giants.
Great !!!
That's some major value on Houston. Lincecum is on fire and kudos to him for that, but only 4 days of rest after his second straight CG is asking too much from a yougster. He has lost twice as a big favorite this season, as -170 vs Mets and -175 vs Angels. The Rockets have been a good bounce back team lately with a 11-2 record following a loss in last 13. They will score some runs today and the game will be close.
Houston OVER 3 RUNS -105
Houston +2.5 RUNS -200
Houston -1.5 RUNS +290
Houston +170
Houston first 4.5 innings +125

Lannan did his job as I anticipated with 17 groundouts (several for double play) and Hansen pitched much better than I expected. Big kudos go to him. The Braves are just a bad baseball team, especially on the road !!! Hansen will get back down to earth soon as well. He is talented but will be overused by a bad team. Washington closer walked 2 of first 3 batters faced and Lannan had only 1 walk in 8 innings. Go figure ! Fortunately he got out of the hole with two straight outs in the end.
Now let's go ASTROS !!!
