I saw this day coming the begining of last year. The Latinos were comin up again. Yet I dont see much props being shown to them in the threads or the media. Look at the Latin Starters that have been dealing lately.
Johan Santana(W), Carlos Zambrano(W), Felix Hernandez(W), Wandy Rodriguez(team W. pitched great but no-decision), Ubaldo Jimenez(W 0runs over 7 IP). Wheres the love?
Cmon guys, we can still make it up tonight with Edinson Volquez, Javier Vasquez, Franklin Morales, Fausto Carmona' and Carlos Silva dueling later. Lets give it up for them. They really deserve it.

Looking for Love for the Latin Pitchers because I feel they are being ignored a bit more. Im not trying to suggest that we dont give props to the rest of the MLB Pitchers.

So far today Latin Pitchers have had mixed results.
Daniel Cabrera getting hammered in Florida after a good looking start. He was just wild and that has been his problem for this young man.
However Franklin Morales went 6 innings giving up 1 run and striking out 6 in getting the win at Arizona. This 23yr old Southpaw is impressive and I hope he does well this year and gets the credit he deserves.
Other notable Latins Starting tonight are Edinson Volquez, Walter Silva, Yovani Gallardo, Fausto Carmona, Vicente Padilla, and Carlos Silva.
Lets give some love guys. They could win you some money this year

Isn't Arroyo Latin? That means "lil river" in Spanish.
The Venezuelan and D.R. pitchers throw 200 MPH--they are being 'developed' as we speak--like 20 of them. Stay tuned...
I got another thought:
How 'bout some hate for the fat whiteboy pitchers, like Wellemeyer and Blanton, and let's add to the list while we're at it. Can you think of some more fat whiteboys we can just spew out some hate out to?

And we dont want to Hate here, just give up some love.
GeorgeCarlin you Silly Goose. I thought you were in a Box some where. Did El Diablo let you out today?

Come on guys, I read this entire thread and only see Gallardo mentioned once?? The guy faces one of the games greatest in Randy Johnson, Dominates on the mound, and hits a Three Run Bomb. He deserves ALOT more love IMHO.

Latin born Pitchers like Yovani Gallardo, and the way they are largely ignored by most people, is the reason I started this thread.
Young Latin Pitchers like Gallardo(23 yrs old) Felix Hernandez(23 and in his 5th season) Ubaldo Jimenez(25yrs old) Edinson Volquez(25 yrs old. 17-6 3.21 ERA in 08') JohnnyCueto(23 yrs old) and Franklin Morales(23 yrs old) to name a few, have bright futures as Major League Starting Pitchers. Yet in conversations on threads and out in the real world, I here very little spoken of them.
I will update their stats here(or start a weekly thread) so that we can keep track of these Pitchers and give comments on how they are looking (Good or Bad).

Honestly, I can't believe you're "pulling the race card" for the Latin pitchers to get some love...I mean seriously, there are good AND bad pitchers of every race.
I think a lot of these guys are really good because it seems like when they turn 13 or 14 in the D.R. and in other Latin countries their job is already baseball...no school, just baseball. Kinda like a "sweatshop" thing. These guys in this era are simply bred to play baseball. So, they are obviously coming up to the majors way ahead of the curve ahead of players of other nationalities. The ones that DO make it obviously make a lot of money, and it certainly works for them.
Anyway, LOVE me some Latin box though!

There were actually two Latin Pitchers on the mound Thursday as I failed to recognize Alfredo Simon (BAL) as being Dominican.
Simon looked sharp early against the Yankees, retiring the first seven batters he faced and holding them scoreless through 3 innings before giving up a solo homerun to Mark Teixeira and a two run shot to Nick Swisher in the fourth. He settled down and retired the side in the fifth before being pulled after giving up a leadoff single to Teixeira.
He ended his start giving up 4 runs in 5IP and was hung with the loss.
Oliver Perez also started well in his 09' debut retiring the first six batters he faced including striking out the side in the second inning and totaling 4 K's.
Staked to a 3-0 lead it was looking good for the Mets untill Perez began his meltdown.
Giving up an RBI single to Darnell McDonald and then a three run shot to lefty Joey Votto the Reds took a 4-3 lead after the third. After the Mets tied it up in the top of the fifth, the Reds scored four time in the bottom of the inning, sending Perez to the showers.
Perez went 4.1 IP and gave up 8 ER.
Updated numbers for our Latin Pitchers through Thursday.
Monday
4 Starts 3-1 2.40 ERA 26.2 IP
Tuesday
2 Starts 1-0 0.69 ERA 13 IP
Wednesday

Thursday
2 Starts 0-2 11.87 ERA 9.1 IP
4 day total

That is your opinion. However I really dont think they get the respect they deserve here in the States and I DO Think its because they are Latin/Hispanic. I see it everyday here in Vegas where many hardworking Latinos are overlooked outside of their own communitys. Im just trying to shine a little light on the issue not trying to start a huge controversy.
Im giving love to what I beleive is an underappreciated group in MLB and if people want to bash this thread that would be sad and undeserving.

Friday was a nice day for a few of our Latin Starters with 2 picking up wins and a dominating performance by Armando Galarraga against the MLB's top offensive club.
Anibal Sanchez shut down the Mets over five innings but was hung with a no-decision when the bullpen could'nt hold the lead.
Joel Pineiro was sharp in his first start of the season for St. Louis pitching 6.2 innings of 2 run ball and getting the W.
Rounding out the pack were Jose Contreras(L) 5ip 4er, and Shairon Martis(ND) 3ip 3er.
That brings our updated numbers for our Latin Starters to:
Monday

Friday
5 Starts 2-1 3.43 ERA 26.2 IP
5 Day Total
22 Starts 9-8 4.46 ERA 125.1 IP
Saturday brings us nine Latin Starters to watch for with some Staff Aces like Carlos Zambrano(CHC), and "King" Felix Hernandez(SEA) on the bump along with 2005 Cy Young winner Bartolo Colon(CWS). My favorite Whiffle ball pitcher Livan Hernandez(Last season 180 IP 257 hits 67 K's(NYM), along with young guns Francisco Liriano(MIN), Johnny Cueto(CIN), Yusmeiro Petit(AZ), Jorge De La Rosa(COL), and Jonathan Sanchez(SF), who I will be giving a write-up about in my Saturday Fade Play.
Lets give up the love and cheer them on

The Latin hurlers were at it again on Saturday. Althoug the numbers were unimpressive overall, their were some positive performances out there.
Sharp performances by the elderstatesmen of the group were highlighted by an outstanding display by 2005 CyYoung winner Bartolo Colon. He outdueled Fransisco Liriano, pitching six innings of shutout ball to earn the victory over the Twins.
In Florida Livan Hernandez was feeling at home in his former stomping grounds as the crafty vet tossed 6.2 innings allowing two runs and getting the win for the Mets.
All in all I could see some bright spots by the younger Latin Pitchers and Im confident that they will improve their performances as we move through the season.
