It got pretty hairy a few seasons ago when my flyers came back from down 3-0 on my oldest brother bruins and then my other brothers hawks beat my flyers for the cup. That was an eventful post season let me tell you lol.
Lots of bruises in the family there.... Hahaha...

You can see why I stated that if the Leafs could beat the Bruins in round 1 the skies were the limit, as the Bruins are that strong. Should be the Leafs and Hawks...but this wound will have to heal...will take a few months.

No it would not be the Leafs and the Hawks. Give your head a shake buddy. Dion Phaneuf is the biggest joke of a Captain the NHL has to offer and the leafs defense in general needs lots of improvement before they can be take seriously. Phaneuf was too cowardly to even stand in front of the net with Chara and battle to help his goaltender on those last two goals. He is a terrible defenseman nevermind complete joke as a Captain. Calgary does not do much well but unloading that clown was one of the greatest moves they ever made. He also lost them that game in Toronto when he like a small retarded child pinched to make a hit in overtime and the Bruin blueline and created the game winning goal to put them down 3-1.
The Bruins were playing terrible hockey entering the playoffs and that series was the worst they have been the entire playoffs. The Bruins were lucky enough to get fed the Leafs in the first round and thus enable them to capitalize on an epic collapse by a young hockey team, and advance and gain momentum.
If the Leafs met the Bruins right now the way they are playing the series would be over in 3 games because the 4th one would be that meaningless.
The leafs are young, decent and will continue to get better but your comment is ridiculous. The Leafs would be buried with the level of hockey that is being played in this round by any of the four teams playing right now.
I disagree to some extent...the Bruins are playing better right now without a doubt, but I think it would have been a difference of 1 game for that series. As young and inexperienced as the Leafs are, they are one of the quickest teams in the league and I truly believe their speed/puck possession game was bothering the Bruins. They were not able to get their forecheck or cycle game going, especially in the 2nd half of the series.
I don't believe the sky was the limit however so I agree with you on that, they might have beaten the Rangers but any of these teams in the conference finals would puttem out with ease.

Since two original six teams played for Lord Stanleys Cup.
Long way to go in these two series yet but in my opinion it would be great for hockey, and it's been way too long.
Two old school fan bases that support their teams no matter what, through thick and thin.
The two buildings would be rocking with real true blue, hardcore hockey fans just like a few seasons back when Chicago and Philadelphia met in the finals which also happened to be a meeting between two of the older franchises with the Hawks being original six and the Flyers being part of the original expansion six in 1967.

This is a sport where emotion, confidence, timing and luck play a big part!
This is not a chess match!
the Montreal Canadiens were not the 2nd best team in the NHL for 2011 because they took the Stanley Cup champions to overtime game 7 where Brian Gionta hit the post! They were even top 10. Their is no consolation prize for trying hard enough. This is why I don't play futures, you play the matchups. The Bruins had zero confidence, swag and timing down the stretch. the leafs had them at the right time. If you don't understand what I'm saying than you've never played hockey at a high level.
The Canadiens in 2011 upset Washington and the Pens because they had insane goaltending from Price and an incredible number of blocked shots and Subban essentially Ovechkin and Crosby's shadow in each series.
I don't believe in taking away credit from the work of the team that wins. Many like to discount Toronto even though they had a very good regular season which played out intensely due to the shortened season.

L.A won the Cup last year as an 8th seed, did you see that coming?
The Maple Leafs had a .500 record or better against all the teams that made it through to the second round. Only the Rangers outscored them in overall goals head-to-head. The Leafs also entered the playoffs on a sour note, that's why the games are played, it's a new season come playoff time.
Dion might not be the best captain, I disagreed with how quickly he was chosen (Lupul seems to be the natural leader right now) but he does play alot of minutes and has improved somewhat from two years ago. Grabovski's line was the line least reliable in the playoffs, while Dion had the task of trying to handle the Lucic line, something the Pens are learning about first hand right now.
Why couldn't the Leafs have as good a shot as any if they don't blow that 4-1 lead? They are young, very fast, tenacious, hard hitting and generally difficult to play against. In the playoffs these are the types of teams that win. Boston didn't just almost lose to the Leafs, the Leafs outmatched them line for line and forced the Bruins into penalties and often playing a step behind them throughout the series.
