they all have the same amount of games left and it is looking like only 1 of them will miss the playoffs since both the avalanche and flames have less games to play and are already behind in points

Yotes remaining games: Columbus, @ St Louis, @ Minnesota.

Kings remaining games: Oilers, Sharks, @ Sharks

Sharks remaining games: @Dallas, @ Kings, KIngs

Stars remaining games: Sharks, @ Nashville, St. Louis

Coyotes currently in 3rd with the tie breaker over both the sharks and kings if they were to end up tied in points. I believe dallas would hold the breaker over them if they were to end up tied. At first glance it looks like the Yotes have the easiest schedule to wrap up the season. They should definitely take care of business vs the Jackets at home and beat the Wild on the road to end things off. Both of these teams are the jokes of the NHL, but I'm sure they would love to play spoiler. The other 3 teams have much harder remaining games and have to go against each other in the process which helps out the Yotes big time.

I think Phoenix wins the division and the loser of the Stars/Sharks game misses the playoffs unless the Sharks lose that then sweep the Kings to end the season. It should be a great finish. Thank god the yotes don't have to play the red wings first round again if they make it

cbssportsline has the yotes in 3rd. i think the tie breaker is head to head record and they yotes had a better head to head record if im not mistaken.

Not sure it is that easy for Yotes, esp if all the H2H games end up 3 point games.  As long as Kings do not slip to Oliers I think they are in best shape.

actually i think they tied season series 3-3 so next breaker is goal differential so the yotes beat them in that department im assuming?

they each have 39 wins at the moment, tied the season series, goal differential is next. I'm guessing since the kings couldn't find the back of the net for most of the year and Mike Smith has been almost as beastly as Quick that the Yotes would have that breaker

is it goal differential just vs each other or for whole season? Bc im seeing kings goals for 185 and goals against 180. Yotes goals for 204 and goals against 200. So maybe cbssportsline is wrong and the Kings are in 3rd at the moment. I have no clue. The division winner will come down to the wire. It all hinges on the Sharks. I think the Yotes take care of business at home vs the Jackets, probably lose to the Blues (will possibly be resting players at this point bc they will have already known their fate?) , and final game of year at the Wild. I'll take my chances in that one. Mike Smith will carry the load one more time. This team has a lot of heart and unsung heroes no one outside of the local fans really know about.

I'm seeing 39 wins each and both had 6 shoot out wins so kings are leading by goal differential. Pretty sure that's correct. Kings should definitely beat the Oilers. That home and home vs the Sharks will decide everything. The Blues play the yotes then stars to end the year. Is it possible they rest dudes for these games? If the blues lose their next game and the Nucks win their game? Mind fuck....very hard to win in St Louis if indeed they are still playing their hardest.

ya i saw that. espn is showing me that they each have 39 wins and 6 shoot out wins though. What am missing?

TIEBREAKER
In the event teams are tied in the standings, the following tiebreakers are applied to determine which team receives the higher seeding.

1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2. The greater number of games won (not including games won in a shootout).
3. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
4. Goal differential.


just went thru the schedule and they tied the season series 3-3 but a few of the yotes wins were in ot vs them. Kings had 8 pts and yotes had 7 so they lose the breaker this way i believe

I think sharks or dallas miss the playoffs. loser of tomorrows game between them most likely. So it will be a battle between kings/yotes for division crown. Unless sharks run the table and the yotes shit the bed. Sharks seem like perennial chokers though. I doubt that will happen and the Kings kicked the shit out of them at home the other night. Kings should beat oilers, Yotes should beat Jackets. This whole thing is a mind fuck. Great end to the season in the Pacific division. As nice as it would be to win the division, I'd almost rather the yotes finish in 7th or 8th and get the nucks first round hopefully. I think they'd have a much better shot vs the nucks than the Blackhawks for some reason.

Parlayed Kentucky and Kings both on the ml tonight as one of my biggest wagers of the year. I'd be shocked if either team lost.

Phoenix will complement tonight's win over the Blues with a victory in Minnesota tomorrow (Saturday) to capture the division crown.
