I follow it somewhat during the regular season but really don't "get into it" until the NCAA playoffs. a good site for basic research is http://www.uscho.com/ .
just going by "PairWise", http://www.uscho.com/rankings/pairwise-rankings/d-i-men/, I would say that in the conference semi-finals Friday...
in the CCHA I would go with Michigan (although they split @ BG regular season, I go with Red Berenson teams in ANY tourney) and Miami-Ohio (beat WMU handy in 2 regular season games).
in Hockey East, I like Boston College (who just CLOBBERED Providence College their two regular season games and they are #1 overall on PairWise)) and the "Mine Block Bars" (U Maine, who beat BU twice @ BU's own rink BUT it's tough to go against"Jock Pock-Ah" {Jack Parker} teams in tourneys).
for the WCHA, I go with Minnesota (they were 3-1 vs UND regular season and #1 in the standings) and Minn-Duluth (1-0-1 in their 2 @ Denver regular season, #2 regular season and #3 overall on PairWise)
ECAC and Atlantic Hockey, WHO CARES? there probably aren't even lines out on them. (although AH teams have been "dangerous dogs" 1st round of the NCAA's in the past and Cornell from the ECAC has had an EXCELLENT hockey program for decades)
hope this helps AND I'm NOT leading you astray. |

#5 Posted: 3/16/2012 4:03:00 PM the two Hockey East games, Providence vs BC and Maine vs BU, are on NBC Sports and NESN @ 5:00 PM and 8:00 pm eastern.
the North Dakota - Minnesota game is on Fox Sports North @ 8:00 pm eastern
the Western Michigan vs Miami-Ohio is on Fox Sports Arizona (of all places) @ 4:30 pm eastern. both CCHA games are also on Fox Sports Detroit Plus (alternate sports channel 440 on my Dish-TV system) @ 4:30 (WM vs M-O) and Michigan vs Bowling Green @ 8:00 pm eastern.
championship games are tomarrow on NBC Sports and NESN (Hockey East) @ 8:00 pm eastern, Fox Sports Detroit Plus (CCHA) @ 7:30 pm eastern, Fox Sports North (WCHA) @ 8:00 pm eastern and TimeWarner Cable Sports New York (Atlantic Hockey) @ 7:00 pm eastern
2nd period of the DU-UMD game just starting on Fox Sports North. Denver up 1-0

#6 Posted: 3/16/2012 4:14:20 PM conference championship tourneys are a BIG DEAL because it's an AUTOMATIC PLACEMENT to the NCAA tourney.
SO IF a regular season "bottom feeder" like Bowling Green, who only won 5 conference games in the regular season BUT knocked off both Northern Michigan AND conference standings champion Ferris State in the CCHA playoffs so far, where to pull the upset and WIN their tourney, they would get into the NCAA's after having a really BAD season.
Denver now up on UMD 2-0 |

Blasi has to be the WORST tourney coach in NCAA hockey history.
DU nad UND now tied 3-3 with 5 mins to go in the 3rd BUT DU on a power play. UMD KILL
AND Providence and Boston College TIED 2-2 in the 1st peroid. "March Madness" baskets on Ice |

now 4-1 Western. Enrico Blasi
I don't know WHY I would pick the Redhawks in ANY tourney game, conference of (4 sure) NCAA. I even told some hockey people I ran into last night @ the LVH Superbook, which was a "March Madness" MADHOUSE, to FADE the Redhawks in the NCAA tourney because of Balsi teams history of BLOWING GAMES.

#21 Posted: 3/16/2012 6:18:32 PM not a lot but a lot of the action goes on in the NorthEastern states. Canadian college hockey is a little different style no facemasks.

#22 Posted: 3/16/2012 6:59:00 PM going to 2nd OT @ Xcel
4-1 start of the 3rd @ "The Joe"
Canadian college hockey is a little different style no facemasks.
American College teams like Michigan and North Dakota are usually LOADED with Canadian players. Red Berenson's great Wolverine teams that won the NCAA Champiomship in 1994 and 1996 had Brendan Morrison, Mike Knuble, John Madden, Bill Muckalt and Marty Turco.
JEEZ!!! Jerry York needs to get the BC's GOING. only leading Providence 3-2 going into the 3rd period
half way thru the 3rd @ "The Joe" and STILL 4-1 Western Michigan. Miami-Ohio will probably get an "at large" spot in the NCAA's as a "PairWise" pick @ #6 BUT they DON'T deserve it.
Denver ends it in the 2nd OT @ Xcel. final 4-3 (need a "barf" emoticon) UMD should be getting a "PairWise" selection @ #3

#23 Posted: 3/16/2012 7:02:56 PM switched to the Western - Miami broadcast. now 6-2 Western with 5 minutes to go.
what a difference between "The Joe" in Detroit and Xcel in St Paul. "The Joe" looks like it's damn near EMPTY. |

#24 Posted: 3/16/2012 7:15:49 PM Air Force beat Mercthurst 5-2 1st game of the AHA semi's. the Falcons have been a "dangerous dog" in the past when they have made it to the NCAA's.
RIT vs Niagara is the late game. RIT went to the Frozen Four in 2010 beating Denver U and New Hampshire as HUGE dogs before getting squashed by Wisconsin
Final 6-2 Western Michigan @ The Joe. enough said about THAT wreck.
BC's finally "erwache". up 4-2 @ Boston half way thru the 3rd and on a power play EXCELLENT crowd @ TD Garden. |

#25 Posted: 3/16/2012 7:23:07 PM the Falcons have been a "dangerous dog" in the past when they have made it to the NCAA's. they beat #1 seed Michigan in 2009 and took Vermont to a 2nd OT. most of their 1st round losses in the tourney have been by 1 goal which covered the betting spread. |
