2 years at 9.5 million.
If he can stay healthy this is a good move for the Leafs. He is an excellent playmaker and will help Kessel alot.
I really like the fact it only a two year deal.....

I don't think there's really anything to bash. Slightly over-paid for an injury prone second line center, but I guess that's the market. I think the fact that it's only 2 years shows that they're realistic about what they're getting - a stop gap until they can find a real first line center.
If he stays healthy, he should be good for Kessel and the PP and they won't have to tinker with the Grabovski-Kulemin line which looked really solid last year. They also still have enough cap space to add somebody via trade if Bozak struggles again and/or Kadri still isn't ready.

Of course theres tons to bash.
Lets not even start with his injuries because thats already been said.
He is soft, like very soft. Like Matt Stajan soft.
He is inconsistant. Sure he will light it up when hes playing well but he will also go on hiatus for huge stretchs and becomes invisible.
He is pretty useless 5 on 5. With all the injuries his footspeed has declined and he can no longer create the kind of offence in the neutral zone that he used to be able too.
He is absolute trash in big games. He has a total of ZERO goals in his last 20 playoff games.
He's effective on the powerplay and a decent PK'er but hes trending downward bigtime and Ruff put him in the doghouse this season because hes Lazy and was playing like a box.
This guy will get roasted by the Toronto media. Desperation is a stinky cologne.

good pickup by the leafs, connolly is an excellent skater and playmaker and at a two year deal limits the chances of the leafs getting hurt! just have to prey he can stay healthy

Have you watched him the past 2 seasons?
His speed isnt what it used to be and hes clearly lost a step. His hands are still top flight but his footspeed has declined considerably.

really should have tried to re-sign Joel Ward too. 4 years @ $3 million per was not unreasonable after his playoffs. "big bangers with skills" are at a premium. Predlies did get Nicky Bergfors, who I think is underrated, from Florida for 1 year $575K. think that's a deal.
BUT, in any case, NOT to worry. "Bullet Head Barry" Trotz could probably find a way to WIN with a bunch of AHL players ![]()

This is a win-win trade I think. Huge upgrade from Lebda to Franson for the Leafs, and they have the luxury of eating Lombardi's salary even if he never returns to his old form. Nashville sacrifices Franson, but they can get Weber signed now.

Fellas should be debating the deal that didn't happen - once again the Leafs FAIL to sign the big fish who could have made a REAL impact ![]()
...this is the real story IMO ![]()
