Why do the Hawks get punished for the C's fouling on the inbound pass

The Hawks were taking the ball out under the basket.  Celtics commit the foul on the inbounds and then have to take the ball out at half court.  Seems stupid to punish the Hawks for a Celtics foul.

DONT KNOW , GOOD QUESTION, NOT SURE ON RULE WASNT PAYIN ATTENTION, MAYBE IT WAS THEIR OPTION, IFFY CALL THOUGH, THAT FOUL WAS RIGHT AT THE INBOUND WHICH COULD OF BEEN 2 SHOTS!!

The ball wasn't in the hands of anyone. Stupid rule. I never knew it existed. Reminds me of OAK/NE game with the tuck rule.

Why on earth would the Hawks choose to take it out at halfcourt.  At halfcourt you are running away from the basket to get the inbounds pass.  You are moving towards the basket to get the pass when its on the baseline.  Big difference!

should have shot two shots.kennedy said the foul was after the ball left the throwers hand which wasn't even close.Hawks robbed.

Ball never left the hands of the inbounder. Replay showed it. They never went to the replay to review it. FIXED CALL.

they got punished because horford elbowed 'quis in the face.  shoulda been celtics ball.  just sayin.

Definitely questionable.. They do it so well though, don't they? Feed us with a new card tomorrow, then we all forget.

that 1st inbound pass was gonna be an easy path to the basket for whoever was receiving it

they were not going to give the hawks two free throws after the davis debacle in game one where he flagrantly screwed the celtics on two back-to-back horrible calls that were borderline federal felony offenses(game fixing).

the refs wouldve never made it out of the TD center alive last night.

thats pretty much what happened.

Why do the Hawks get punished when they can't make crucial FT's?!?  BTW, the announcers explained it perfect when they interpreted the rule: the official deemed that the ball had been released from the in-bounding players' hands when the foul was committed. It doesn't matter what slow motion replay says because it's not a reviewable play.  I don't know why the inbound was changed to the sideline but it could be that all loose ball fouls are done there.  I'm a fan of neither team. Hawks had a shot and blew it.

Was wondering the same but at the end of the day the Hawks still had two ft's from that posession except w/a statistically bettrr free thrower in Horford than I believe it was Smith who got fouled.

BTW...see josh smith in the huddle prior to there last posession.

Its actually a harder pass to make inbounding from the baseline. Unless there is a rule Im unaware of all fouls of that nature you take the ball out on the side. They also had a perfect play and executed it to perfection but Horford missed the freethrows after the smart foul.

Ref made the call but didn't have the balls to to to have the Hawks shoot 2 free throws and get the ball back. He probably blew his whistle as a reaction, then once he realized the ball hadn't been inbounded and the Hawks were down by 2 he didn't want to be the one that gave them the tie / lead in  a playoff game.

I thought they were going to review it too, NBA refs are rediculous.

They got 2 FT's anyway and missed one, and had they made both there was still time left for Boston to score and or beat them in OT.

Quit acting like I am trying to make excuses for why the Hawks lost or some shit.  That's not what I am doing.  I am simply asking about the ruling on one play.  I have watched NBA for a long time and have never seen this before.

 Smith cost the Hawks big with that technical in the 4th.  Horford has to make that 1st free throw as well.  Hawks were 8/8 from the line before that one.
