The play worked obviously, they just didn't finish.  they had a shot at the end not only to tie but to win the game.  you foul, you go down by 4 and it is still a two possession game with NO TIME OUTS (that is a huge factor there too).

I liked the call, smart coaching.

Well said, Terry actually had a good look and missed the potential game winner.  Good coaching on Carlisle's part, didn't expect such a clear cut rebound and leak out by Terry.

first of all...its the playoffs.....with no timeouts...you HAVE to extend the game.  yes it would be a 2 possesion game ..if portland hit BOTH freethrows....freethrows arent automatic....you take the chance there...10 times out of time times. 

in order for your so called "great call" to work....dallas would have to get a PERFECT rebound with 3 seconds left.....the perfect pass....and the perfect shot....which suprisingly happened....however they missed the shot....so your genius coaching play...was unsuccessful.

if they didnt foul...and portland got an offensive rebound....would you still think it was the right call?

you have to foul and keep extending the game as long as possible.

you cant play for the last shot with 3 seconds left and have to go fullcourt and hope to get some miracle shot off.  On top of that dallas was banking on portland not making a basket or grabbing the rebound.  You got to foul and hope the guy only makes one, now you have a shot at a 3 to tie game.

The play made zero sense, especially since freethrows to these nba players arent automatic.

Fouling to extend the game might of, and I emphasize the "might of", been the right call if they had two or more time outs left so they could take half the court out of the equation with each possession.  But they did not (as RR22 and Adam did not realize when they made their irrational posts).  So Dallas had to do what gave the the greatest odds for a chance at a game tieing/winning shot.  And that is EXACTLY what they got at the end.  Whether the shot goes in or not is not the coaches fault, he just has to set up the play to give his players the opportunity to win it and that is what he did.  Brilliant coaching decision on Dallas.  People who lost a bunch of dough on this understandably are too irrational to see this.

First off i had dallas with the spread, so this isnt about losing my bet. You couldnt be more wrong about what dallas did. They are supposed to foul with 27 tics left.  Hope the guy misses one freethrow, now they got a full 27 tics left to take the ball down court and play for a 3. There is no way dallas is supposed to pray portland misses their last shot and they rebound, then go full court with 3 tics left. That call was so stupid and if you or anybody else cant see that, you should stop gambling tonight. Just because the dallas coach is a coach, doesnt mean his call was the right one. It was one of the worst calls i have ever seen a coach make.
