Which team is the NBA's worst? It's never a distinction any club aspires for and yet someone's got to hold the title. Kind of like the Oscars worst dressed that those yuppie entertainment folk appoint.
Some may say I'm making a mistake by leaving the Clippers out of the discussion. I'm not willing to toss the longest reigning champ of he Association's most embarrassing franchise into this ring... at least not this year. Even after back to back shell lackings from the Suns. The Clippers have some young talent and that's more than the Craptors or Queens can say.
The Kings are awful. They've won just two of their last 17 games and only compete when the Grizz or Thunder are in town.
This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Sacramento after GM Geoff Petrie traded away Ron Artest in the offseason. Petrie was active at the deadline trying to rid the club of some bad contracts, but in the process he traded away one of his best players and certainly one of the league's better bargains (John Salmons).
Toronto, meanwhile, had high expectations this season. The trade to acquire Jermaine O'Neal didn't work out the way GM Bryan Colangelo planned or the way O'Neal predicted (a newer edition of Duncan-Robinson Spurs circa 1999).
So, after struggling to decide whether his team was better off with O'Neal or Shawn Marion (whose contract expires a year earlier), Colangelo flipped a coin and took Pat Riley's garbage in Miami.
And sorry to break the news gang, but Marion isn't the explosive wing scorer he used to be. He doesn't provide the Raps with a small forward or two guard that can create his own shot that they've needed since they traded away Vince Carter. Marion's always been a great second or third wheel. You don't draw up plays for this guy at the end of a game so that means more contested 17-foot jumpers clanging off the iron in game-deciding situations for Chris Bosh and T.Dot fans.
The Raptors looked like they belonged in the CBA while Chris Bosh was sitting out with an injury and then somehow they one upped themselves with Friday's performance at the Garden (a 127-97 win for the Knicks).
So which team is worse, the Craptors or the Queens? If the two were playing today on a neutral court, what would you make the pointspread?
Toronto gets the Knicks at home today and for some friggin' reason, Betjamaica.com and other books have the Raps giving three points.
I say take the Knickerbockers and put down your life savings on it.
Dino coach Jay Triano couldn't motivate a hampster to get on a wheel let alone get his boys up for a revenge date with New York.
Craptors don't even come within a fart sniff of this one. Knicks 132-92.
