EDMONTON (CP) - The Edmonton Eskimos signed free-agent running back Josh Ranek on Wednesday, expecting the three time CFL East all-star to rebound in the West.
Ranek battled through a subpar 2006 season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, playing just 10 games because of injury. The 28-year-old ran for 343 yards on 85 carries and made 26 catches for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
Prior to joining the Ticats as a free agent before the dispersal draft for Renegades players, the five-foot-eight, 205-pound Ranek posted three straight 1,000-yard seasons in Ottawa.

The Ticats released him in October.
"Josh is one of the CFL's elite running backs and arguably the league's best north-south runner," Danny Maciocia, the Eskimos coach and director of football operations, said in a statement. "We expect he'll be a very important part of our offence."
Troy Davis led the Eskimos with 1,060 rushing yards last season and the club ranked fourth in the CFL with 1,845 yards on the ground. Edmonton was fifth with 367 points scored.
In 77 career CFL games, Ranek has 4,371 yards on 824 carries with 23 touchdowns. He's also made 251 receptions for 2,506
