ladies and gentlemen this is a very bad matchup for condit. GSP would have also been a very bad matchup for diaz also. I'm a firm believer the toughest style out there close to beating gsp is that of jake ellenberger.
As we all know, gsp is the type of fighter who can dictate where the fight will take place, as opposed to condit who goes with the flow. gsp doesn't need to strike with condit because the takedowns will either be there on a silver platter or condit will be more than happy to be on his back and go for a sweep like he did with dong kim. Is it realistic that gsp will get swept like dong kim did at ufc 132? i don't think so and if gsp ever got swept like that, it would look so bad on his legacy. gsp will look for takedowns, ground and pound, and submissions vs carlos condit. Diaz does not care about wrestling and so all those kicks from condit was huge, but kicks will never work vs gsp because of the takedown threats. If you look back on condit's record, his submission defense is very suspect to me. Even vs Diaz in round 5, he allowed diaz to take his back and allow both hooks to get in like that, the more i gather everything up, the more i would say that dong kim really fucked up giving up at ufc 132, that must have really been demoralizing for him. How is carlos condit's takedown defense? This is really too easy for gsp fans that need a challenge.
Johnny Hendricks, Jake Ellenberger, and Rory MacDonald are all the type of matchups that would give gsp a real challenge. They have power which you cannot train for but will they have the technicality when called for? Will the wrestling be enough to neutralize gsp's takedowns and how is the jiu jitsu defense? I doubt that rory macdonald would ever fight gsp but the key to beating gsp is to be able to keep the fight standing and be the better, technical, and more powerful striker. And if you don't have the wrestling background, then a really sick jiu jitsu background like that of andre galvao or rousimar palhares would be necessary to make sure the fight stays standing on the side of gsp. In other words, an above average ground game will not be good enough. In my opinion, i believe one day sometime in the future we will see rory macdonald and erick silva fight for the title.

I think Condit TDD would need some work vs GSP. HE's been taking down by lesser fighters but he's always been active on the bottom.
That being said I just can't see GSP recovering and being as explosive as he once was. ACL injuries take at least 1.5 years to get back to close to 100%. If GSP doesn't take a tune-up I will be betting on Condit. I expect the fight to even out a bit since GSP is coming back from injury. Condit can work from his back if he does get taken down.
GSP should rightfully be the favorite coming in but I would not make him anything more than a 3 to 1 favorite.
A future matchup I would like to see is Ellenberger vs. GSP. I think he has the right tools to give GSP some problems.

if you havent had a chance to watch the press conference from after fight you should......it was pretty clear Condit did not want to fight before GSP and Dana White wanted him to

To me, anybody with top notch wrestling/sick jiu jitsu/takedown defense with better technical striking/knockout power in at least one hand is a great matchup/challenge in taking away gsp's belt. Koscheck was a great matchup for gsp unfortunately he was not technical enough for him despite having a big right had that he loves to wing. In my opinion i'd rather have a guy who has better technical boxing than a guy who has big knockout power but i believe that ellenberger might have both because we do know he has a big right hand. Is gsp's wrestling better than ellenbergers? Even if it was just a tad bit better than gsp, or even 1 step below gsp wrestling, this pretty much means the fight can be standing for the vast majority unless there are cardio/conditioning concerns. The more i think about hendricks, the more i question his technical boxing ability although he's getting better and better.

Is GSPs wrestling better than Ellenbergers? Um...yea defiantly is.
But I agree that Ellenberger or Hendricks might have the best chance right now with a sort of sprawl and brawl sort of deal. Not sure if they could keep up with GSP past 3 rounds though.

im lookin forward to Kos/Hendricks on Fox 3. I like Hendricks on an intial look, and the winner, no matter who, should get the title shot. And on the same card Belcher/palhares. these fox cards are getting sick!
but on the GSP topic. Yes GSP is a bad matchup for ANYONE! he is great at every skill in MMA. Some might be a better striker, but then he takes them down. and vice versa. until someone can bring ina better tool belt, GSP keeps winning in GSP fashion. safe fights, but winning. he may not be the best p for pound fighter, but he is the most well rounded fighter, in m y opinion. it sure would be nice to see a dramatic finish from GSP in Bonesian or spiderian fashion one more time
