Great judgment call by the ref not to stop the fight.

He could have easily stopped the fight but didn’t.

Yea...but the reason why Carwin stood up was because he was exhausted. If he would have attempted a submission when Brock was on the ground...he may have been in better shape in Round 2.

Yeah, the magnitude of the fight definitely factors in.  I just heard an MMA writer on the radio say that it could've been stopped at least twice, but the bottom line is Brock survived and won the fight.  It sucks losing a nickel on this, but I've had much worse losses than this one.  Either way, brock bouncing back from that beatdown was impressive.   

Carwin simply gassed.  He beat the shit out of Lesner, turning his face into a bloody,swollen mess and Lesner KNOWS that he was lucky to win.  They will have a rematch and Carwin will beat his ass good again whether lesner has the belt or not because Cain is the real deal too.

I know, I'm not gonna bitch and moan too much about this one, this is the type of shit you run into when betting MMA.  I also had Akiyama by decision at +314 and the fuckin' douche gets tapped out with 20 seconds left when he likely would've won the decision.  Oh well, shit happens !!

I, too, lost my ass on Carwin. During the round 1 slaughter, I was sort of torn on a potential outcome. I wanted the stoppage so I could win my bet, but I wasn't really sure if one was warranted. This was for the UFC heavyweight championship. It wasn't on Spike TV undercard.

I think in most championship fights, the referees give the fighters much more leeway to fight. Nothing could be worse than a premature stoppage in a championship fight, and the ref's know that. Carwin had the chance to put Lesnar to sleep, and not give the ref any say in any outcome, but didn't do it. Granted, Lesnar wasn't really defending himself, but Carwin didn't finish. They always say, don't leave a fight in the judges hands. Well, don't leave a fight in the ref's hands either.

Doubt it. Brock said that after the fact when he went to his back he wanted Shane to punch himself out.  Brock had a smarter gameplan.  Shane was by far the better striker, Brock was by far the better fighter.

If laying on your back and covering your face with your hands while you get pummeled down to a bloody pulp is considered defending yourself well, would there ever be a stoppage in any fight?  He was a beaten man.  I'm not gonna argue who won the fight, because Lesnar did.  But this fight could've been stopped in the first round, period.  I don't think Brock defended himself well, but this was too big of a fight to stop like that.  That's what it boils down to.  But I think we can all agree that there have been hundreds of fights that have been stopped for less damage than carwin inflicted on Lesnar. 

This fight definitely redefines what "intelligently defending" yourself means. 

Props to Brock though.  He definitely knew Shane was ripe for the picking after round 1.

true.. Props to people who won with lesnar.  Losing $500 on this fight still stings though after it was pretty close to the fight being over.

Any ways, sorry to hear you lost your ass on the fight that drives you to make 20 posts about it on how Carwin was the better fighters, or how Brock showed no skill in winning.  Ok, I have to go now, I've got money to count.

Just for the record, I thought the fight had a chance to end, but I didn't know the much more skilled fighter or better fighter tonight would be gassed after 2 minutes.
