Why do people feel the need to up their bet amount for the Super Bowl?

I always play more on the "big" games, but only because I usually win them. LSU, Florida, Colts, Red Sox come to mind.
 
I feel there is an edge in these games - they are tailor made for the recreational bettor to lose.
 
Doesn't always pan out, but I win many more of these than I lose.

Two reasons:
I think its because there are no other games left. (The Grand Finally)
And, Its only one game not 16 like during the regular season where they may have money on 5 other games. There bets totaling 5x as much during the regular season.

Patriots for sure, most likely the over - waiting to see where the total settles. I'll also have some props, I'll post everything before kickoff.

If you can afford to, I don't see anything wrong with steamin' it up a little for the last game of the year. Remember, many peoples betting season ends after this game. With that being said, I can't imagine there are many people that can afford to after what this football season brought to most.

i agree, it's the last hoorah.  I usually up my units 500-600% from normal especially if I have a fat bankroll which fortunately I do.  I only wager on the NFL & NCAA Football so when this one's over it's and hit the NL Holdem circuit for me until next September which is a beautiful way to spend the offseason!

Anybody---Doesn't it bother you that Brady has a sprained ankle?
And even more why hasn't the spread been adjusted for it?
 
My thoughts are that the ankle sprain alone should mean 2 to 3 pts. to the spread.  Definitely don't see a huge blowout as a possibility anymore(Patriot's get up see them running the ball more with a gimpy Brady).

Because it's not sprained.
It's def. not something that can be confermed.
 
 
You can't drop the line with out any concrete info. That could be a disaster. In this case the line will adjust on what the bettor thinks. Obviously no one believes the injury.

It is a wise business decision.  Money management in this case is to put as much possible laying dd's in the biggest game of the year.

Exactly, nobody but me that is.  Playing it off like it doesn't mean anything, good luck on that one.
 
Didn't practice all last week, that does mean something when the qb isn't taking snaps at practice.  Will limit gimmick play's or putting a new wrinkle in the offense.  Thanks for the input, will wait to see what happens.  Hard to believe that Brady is human!!

 I actually bet more props for lesser amounts. I have 7 prop bets, a ML bet and a point spread and total bet for  less than what I bet on 1 play.

SB is basically an entertainment bet.

LOL, true... I myself have bet $844.42, 2 pints of blood, and a goat, on the Super Bowl.  It's all on the coin flip, lets go heads!!!!

Brady has been on the injured list all season.  Cagey coach does not like to give out info.  Good for him.  IMO, his ankle is/will be fine for the game.  I don't bet much sports besides football (unless you count horses, LOL).  I usually bet about four to eight units on these big games.  I had 12 units on LSU, that was my big bet of the year.  I am hoping that the SB line will come down, I could get it at -10.5 -125 now but I am afraid to lose by that half a point (although I think the Patriots will win by more than that, I just won't lay it). Checking 5Dimes twice a day looking for -10 -125 or -130.  You can get it now but at -150.  Too much.

Only happens once a year, like Christmas, so you need to treat it accordingly. Plus, it's two months til we can bet baseball.
 
Just off the top of my head.............
 
Like the reason that some would be 5 or 6 games, just take that money for one big bet. Makes sense to me

I think Brady will be 90% or better for the game. I watched him practice today and he did have a little gimp, but maybe that was because he had so much tape on his ankle. Lots of tape wrapped around it.

I always bet more on the SB because so many more lines are out there. I like the prop bets, and alternate lines that the SB has that I can't get every week...

I bet much more on the Super Bowl cause if I lose that gives me until Pre-Season to find a new bookie cause I will stiff him and not pay....
