They would have cleared the field and kicked the extra point, IMO. That is the rule, but it isn't always easy to do when the other team runs to the locker room and doesn't come out. The refs are happy that pass was dropped.

They don't take a knee and they don't "always kick it." If the Giants got pissed and refused to defend the point, the Pats could just run it in for two and cover the spread + the hook. I was seating that cause I had NYG +3.5 -120

That happened before in 1998 when New England scored 2 uncontested when Buffalo refused to come out after a game ended touchdown.
The answer to the original poster is the rules are the try must be played. New England could have kicked, gone for 2 or just taken a knee. Again, Buffalo refused to come out, but what if New England refused to play the try in that game?
The Giants could have streamed to the locker room and refused to come out for a try, just like Buffalo did.
The confetti could have started falling and the Patriots started celebrating not caring and refused to attempt the try. In that case the NFL high ups may have just told the refs to forget about forcing them to play the try.
It would have been really interesting what would have happened in this case and no matter what would have certainly resulted in lots of controversy in gambling circles.
