EASIEST ROAD TO THE SUPERBOWL EVER?

I am not saying its set in stone, but assume that the Colts win and go on to Miami, will this be the easiest any team has every had it to get to a Superbowl? Here is the path:

Baltimore Ravens - 6th seed - record 9-7
New York Jets - 5th seed - record 9-7

Two teams totaling 18 regular season wins. Has it ever been statistically any easier?

Steelers went up against SD (8-8) and Baltimore (11-5) so thats one more win nonetheless a tougher road...

Patriots went up against Jags (11-5) and SD (11-5) much more difficult

BTW for the sake of this conversation lets agree that any team that made it while playing in the wilcard weekend had a tougher road. they had to play 3 games to get there and were almost always playing higher ranked competition and almost always on the road.

so we covered the Steelers in 08, Patriots in 2007, both teams played in wildcard weekend in 2006. On to the Seahawks in 2005:

Hawks played the Skins (10-6) and the Panthers (11-5). Tougher...

In 2004 we have both the Eagles and the Patriots to compare:

Eagles beat Minny (8-8) and Atlanta (11-5). One win tougher

Patriots beat the Colts (12-4) and the Steelers (15-1). One of the toughest roads in recent history.

In 2003 the Patriots beat the Titans (12-4) and the Colts (12-4) once again tougher...

In 2002 the Raiders beat the Jets (9-7) and the Titans (11-5) and the Bucs beat the Niners (10-6) and the Eagles (12-4). Both tougher...

In 2001 the Rams face the Eagles (11-5) and the Packers (12-4) once again more difficult.

Well thats pretty much the decade. I will work on this more but suffice it to say the Colts have a path of very little resistance in comparison to other Superbowl teams this decade and over the course of the NFL in the 16 game season era.

You check the Steelers regular season schedule against two teams they played five times, and won all. As for a tougher road, the Steelers had the toughest schedule in the NFL in 2008.

Eagles road was easiest.  Two dome teams coming to Philly.  8-8 Minny and a Michael Vick led Falcons team.  What a joke.  I'm an Eagles fan and I said "If we don't make it this year, we just don't deserve it"

I am sure in between these lines you can make arguments, however, statistically speaking the Colts are getting two teams who made the playoffs due to tie breakers and record-wise are the worst opponents a team will face this decade and probably way beyond...

Statistically yes, absolutely yes!  However, if you were the Colts and were told you had to play 2 of the NFL's best defenses to get to the Superbowl and go 2-0...I think they would have asked for an easier trip.

Don't disagree and i understand that there are intangibles in between the line that don't show up in the records. Just dawned on me how crazy it was that they were getting two 9-7s that were 5-6 seeds...

Well the Colts can only play who shows up. It's not there fault San Diego and Nate Kaeding stroked there cocks. If your San Diego and all the jets can do is run the ball. How do you get dominated and give up a 50 yard run right up the gut for a TD.

Wow...

Regular season records mean nothing in the playoffs.  Defeating the #1 and #3 ranked defenses in the NFL would be a pretty darn impressive route to the Superbowl.

statistically no and I think that will become reality when they play the game.  Unless Peyton lays an egg, which he is fully capable of doing, I don't think this game will be a close one.
