CINCY and New England Huge Week 17 Dogs?

Why are Cincy and New England such huge dogs this week? Don't they both want to try to win to secure the Number 3 Conference ranking, which would mean if they win their Wild Card game at home, they would travel to SD and not Indy?

they have home field locked for 1st round, nothing to play for

4 seed would have to face Baltimore then Indy, pretty tough, no?

There it is right there...NE has to win to keep the #3 seed...if they win then I am pretty sure the Bengals will have nothing to play for....but the Pats game is huge for them, is it not

Considering the Pats have 1 real road win I'd expect them to be going balls out to wrap up as best a seed as possible with the hopes of hosting the AFC Title game.

I agree that the Pats seem to need the win, and then if they win, the Cincy game at 8pm will be meaningless. If somehow Houston beats NE, wihch is possible, then Cincy might play their starters and try to win outright at NYJ.

I would gobble up that +8 ASAP. You know Bellichick thinks he is a genius so it is likely he would play all the starters from start to finish. Even if he doesnt the Texans will lay an egg this game.  It is there M.O. for the last 8 years.

I wrote this in another post -- BE CAREFUL BETTING ON THE PATS!!  They do not want to play San Diego.  They have the most experience this season with other opponents (Jets, Indy).

REVISED Patriots Playoff options

Their mostly likely options are:

As a # 3 seed -- play Baltimore (#6) in Foxboro and then travel to San Diego (#2 seed)

As a # 4 seed - play Jets (#5 seed) in Foxboro then travel to Indy.

I truly believe that the Pats would want the # 4 seed.  They matchup better against the Jets and Indianapolis. The issue is Cincy may lose to the Jets also.  Pats would remain # 3 seed.

Bottomline - I do NOT think that the Patriots will put a maximum effort for 4 quarters this week against Houston.  I would certainly believe that Brady will be pulled at some point in the second half. Injured players will be rested for the game also. If Welker, Moss, Brady, D-Linemen get injured - the Pats playoff run will be short.

As a back-up to my points....read the Boston Globe today....later this week.  I suspect that the Pats will rest anyone injured and the second half personnel will be very different than the first half.
