Last week, Bill Bellichick blew
the game for his team. His arrogance may have cost him more than just a regular
season victory. By handing the game over to Indianapolis, the Colts managed to
salvage the goose egg they have in the loss column.
As I look ahead to this week, I
see the Colts travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens. The Colts are a mere 1
point favorite, which I disagree with. Sure the Colts have a banged up
secondary, and were trounced by the Pats for three quarters. Heck, they didn’t
even deserve to win that game on Sunday night, but they did and that’s all that
matters.
And what’s more important is that
if they escape Baltimore with another win, I don’t see them losing a regular
season game. After next week, their schedule looks like this:
@ Houston
vs. Tennessee
vs. Denver
@ Jacksonville
vs. NYJ
@ Buffalo
Three games on the road, and three
at home. In the beginning of the year, it could be debated that both the
Broncos and Jets have legitimate shots to win those games. That’s not the case
anymore, as both teams have severely sputtered out.
Perhaps the re-energized Titans
could pull of an upset with Vince Young at the helm? Eh, probably not. Not to
mention, that game is in Indianapolis. Unless Chris Johnson shows up big-time,
which he has many times this year, the Colts wont lose that game.
The past few weeks the Jags have
also been showing some new life, and usually play the Colts really tough. Not
to mention, this game will be in Jacksonville. This will probably be hardest
match up for them, as the Jags could find themselves in the midst of a wildcard
hunt.
As for the Bills, their season has
been over for a few weeks, and by week 17 they simply wont have enough heart
left to give the Colts a run for their money.
So essentially, the Colts and
Patriots could share the same limelight soon, as the only two teams in NFL
history to tout 16-0 regular season records (excluding the Dolphins of course,
who went 17-0 and won the Superbowl in 1972). All of this of course, thanks to
Bill Bellichicks arrogant move to go for it on 4th and 2.
But of course, this is the
National Football League, where nothing is predictable and nothing goes as
expected. For all we know, the Colts may lose to the Ravens on Sunday and the
Pats and their coach will be able to sleep soundly. And all of this, will
simply be a waste of my time and energy.
