I've always been curious how much psychological factors (like Revenge, etc) play into the odds vs the purely objective stats (like yards per attempt, etc).
Its sort of my hypothesis that they matter far more at the college level than the pro level. College kids play less games. Also (for the most part) they have no pro prospects, so its purely the love of the game that motivates them. It seems like they'd be more apt to respond to "so and so disrespected us". It seems like pros wouldn't give a damn. They'd know they have a zillion games behind them and a zillion in front of them. Perform well. Get paid. Don't perform well and pump gas. It doesn't really matter whether they disrespected you or not.
Anyway, that is just my hypothesis and I've always wondered: How much does all of the psychobabble about motivation matter...and how much does it come down to talent and luck?
