Touchdown: When any part of the ball, legally in possession of a player inbounds, breaks the plane of the opponent’s goal line, provided it is not a touchback.

Possession: When a player controls the ball throughout the act of clearly touching both feet, or any other part of his body other than his hand(s), to the ground inbounds.

The receiver established possession since he established control of the ball throughout the act of him catching it and 2 feet touching the ground. The ball was in possession by the player in the endzone = Touchdown.

Once the player's feet hit the ground, since he had clear possession of the ball from the process of the catch to his feet touching the ground, the play is automatically dead and it is a TOUCHDOWN.

you are not interpreting the rule correctly.  the ball came out when he fell to the ground.  not a td.

cappy --> the ball coming out is IRRELEVANT. the play is DEAD once his feet touched the ground!!!!

When his ass hit the turf he was officially down! It was a catch and don't let any fuckface acting like he knows more than 90% of this board tell you otherwise. When ANY part of your body touches the ground, you are down, play over. Possession, two feet inbounds, ass hits ground, TD. Period end of fuckin story!

I don't have money on this game.   I bet NE live in game on the money line at -155 when they were down in the 4th, and that was it.  I made a rule last year never to bet on Norv Turner. 

Look, don't believe me, but Vanzack is the master of the rules and has been around forever here - - read his thread.  He know the rules, and he also says it was the right call.

You have to control the ball all the way to the ground.

You are "down" for the purposes of a fumble, not for determining a catch. that is what you and 90% of the people here are missing.  I am dead serious and am not trying to be a prick.  look, i have lost money on games (and a lot of it) in the worst ways possible and i get the frustration and angst.

whatever the rule is about coming down... let's say you're right.... there still is NOT clear evidence that he CLEARLY did not have possession while going to the ground/coming up.

there IS clear evidence that his elbow hit the ground too while controlling the ball.. which constitutes as being down...

so if i dove and caught the ball and held on to it... on my back with one elbow touching the ground...and just chilled and threw it on the ground... would i not have possession going to the ground?

You listen to announcers way too much.

The "ground cant cause a fumble" cliche actually means that you have established possession before you hit the ground.

In this case, part of establishing possession is controlling it when you hit the ground.
