I don't see what the problem is with sitting out a year from football. Plenty of guys do it and still go on to have successful careers. Just look at Maurice Clarett and Mike Williams, oh wait....
Oh well, he is the one who looks like a greedy ass. Who knows he probably would have been a bust even if he signed.

Nah, they're not close at signing. He wants to be paid top 3 money, and the niners offered him a contract based on where he was drafted. If the niners caved into Crabtrees demands, that puts them in a position to be bullied around in the future, and they have no intentions on increasing their offer. So, there is a legit shot he doesn't sign if hes real serious about getting the money which doesn't make much sense. He wouldn't make any money this season, re-enter next years draft after a year layoff from football, and expect to be chosen over Bryant and Benn while getting a contract worth 40 million ? He's living in a fantasy world. If things went his way, then Brady Quinn would be paid like a top 3 player after he fell all the way to the 22nd pick. Just because your projected to go at a certain spot, doesnt justify you being paid for it.

I am surprised to see everyone is on the side of the greedy NFL owners. An NFL job is just like any other job. There is employer and there is employee. The employer can decide to offer a job with certain amount of $$ to an employee and the employee can decide whether he wants to take it or not.
Do you think the Niners would give any one out of college football a job with decent pay?
Why are we (the fans) are also be fooled by the drafting system which is favoring the owners? Do we have drafting system for other profession such as doctor, lawyer, engineers, etc ... ?
Just because a player got drafted lower than another, he should be value lower. In 2006, Matt Leinart got drafted at #10 which is lower than Jay Cuttler but his package was more than Jay and several other taken ahead of him. The value of the player should be based on the believe on both side of the bargaining table. In this case, Niners can decide not to sign Crabtree for what he believe he is worth. And Crabtree can decide not to sign the contract if he think he is not paid to his believe. This is how every job and salary would be decide and done. Why are we looking at the NFL diffently.
If you have a relative who you believe very good at s/he is doing, just come out of college but seemed to be paid low to his/her standard - would you support him/her to hold out and seek for better offer or would you tell the person just to take the job because s/he is luck to get a job offer?
I have seen several articles cricitize the player but none on the sorry ass, greedy NFL owners - in this case the Niners. It is time for us to give the support to the player, who are more presenting us the more often lowly employee, standing up and demand for what we believe.
I don't really know how this play out but the sorry ass Niners who are in deep need of wide receivers would not budge because they know every American kid's dream is to grow up, become profession atthlete, got paid lots of money. Even I am not in Crabtree postion, I found it is extremely hard for me to see him losing this kind of money for not signing so I can see how it is for him. I am wishing Crabtree not signing and not getting paid this season but I want to see the Niners lose a high draft pick for their greediness.

This guy is Fing idiot, if he sits out this year he isnt going to be a top 10 pick next year, he will drop to the end of the 1st round of even the 2nd round. he is going to get less money by holding out. This is one of those times when the agent is not looking in the best interest of the player. its too bad.

this has nothing to do w/ being for the player or the owner. the guy is hurting his tm for extra money w/out having contributed to the tm yet. if he thinks he deserves more cash then close the deal for a yr and get to proving himself on the field then at the end of the season if he is worth more money it will be given to him either by san fran or some other tm.
this guy is playing financial hardball and his fellow players are the one he is hurting in the end. that said for him to succeed he is gonna have need these other players help on the field for him to be successful as well...

its not being greedy, your talking millions not couple extra dollars an hr here. doctors coming out of a better college tend to get hired faster. your telling me your willing to pay a nurse coming out of college the same amount of money that a doctor would get paid at your office whos been there for 10 years? or would u sacrifice the money u can use to give your doctor a raise and pay it to a nurse coming out of college? it might look like its favoriting the owners but it should. they're paying not the NFL itself. esp when there are so many busts in the WR position, if i was him id just take it and shut up play and prove everyone wrong that crabtree should of gone higher. i dont doubt for a second hes better than heywood-bey but i think if u do your time in the nfl and you play as a top position in the nfl THATS when you should be paid your big money.

hopefully he'll get traded to another team and have to play the niners so singletary will tell his players to HIT HIM IN THE MOUTH.
"we want winners" Mike Singletary...
most teams that are rebuilding seem to have an understanding about it and thus makes exceptions when losing. niners are still rebuilding but this coach wants to WIN!!! niners win the super bowl with a stout defense and a hardcore running game. why do they need a receiver? fuck a crabtree!

I think holding out is the right thing to do in this situation.
If the Niners do not think he is worth for what he demand then trade him to other team (for next year draft pick). I am sure team like Rams, Jets, Redskins, Chiefs, Chargers, and many more would be interested.

you cant say he is better than Bey in the NFL, neither has played a game, well Bey has more experience in the NFL already than Crabtree. Just because Mel Kilper had Crabtree higher in the draft doesnt mean he will get paid according to him. Look where Brady Quinn went, Tom Brady, you think they bitched about being drafted at all? To get millions of dollars to play football..
Gambling-devil
Crabtree needs to prove himself FIRST that he is as good as HE thinks and then get paid, and just like a regular job, the better your performance, the higher your pay will get. You do get a starting salary which he is being offered, and in order to get a higher pay, he has to show it. Just like all vets in the NFL have done.
This rookie salary really needs to be put in place, but I dont think they will. Its very sad to see players like Stafford for example making more money than Brady and Peyton, just crazzy..
