QB Russell Wilson's agent told Troy E. Renck of The Denver Post that Wilson will still have the option of returning to the Colorado Rockies organization after the 2011 football season. "The Rockies have been incredibly understanding of how torn emotionally Russell is between baseball and football. He's not being disrespectful," Mark Rodgers said. "He's just a 22-year-old kid who wants to keep his options open. The Rockies haven't closed the door on him coming back. And Russell has not closed the door."
If Wilson does not return to baseball, he will have to pay back slightly less than half of his $200,000 signing bonus -- which is less ominous than the "significant portion" that a Rockies official said in May that Wilson would forfeit if he left his Class A baseball team during the season.
Wilson is not considered an elite NFL prospect because of his 5-foot-11 height, and even a Heisman-winning season at Wisconsin (which we're not saying is going to happen) wouldn't change that. Also if you would like to bet on him he is listed under 2011 Heisman Trophy Odds So unless he wants to blow a chance at both sports, we expect that he will find his way back to the Rockies sometime in 2012.
