This is a temporary bill (6 months from what i can find). Opponents deem this the "monsanto protection act". Looks like the almighty dollar wins again

This is an absolute failure on our Government's part to protect its citizens. There are around 60 other countries that label GMO foods. Once again the dollar rules everything.

Congress has the ability to regulate the subject matter/jurisdiction of federal courts, so this type of move is relatively common in terms of setting forth what federal courts can and cannot adjudicate.
Also, this wouldn't prevent anyone from seeking redress in state courts on this issue, keep that in mind.

from my understanding, issues such as this would typically go thru the agricultural or judiciary committees for review. There were no hearings at all from what i can find. Senator John Tester (D-MT) proposed the rider be stripped from the bill, but it was never put to a vote.
