#1 Posted: 1/28/2012 8:18:54 AM Pakistan, a country the U.S. has given $billions to and has been on our charity list since 1948 (2nd link below) was "allegedly" harboring Bin Laden.
Our latest genius Panetta has finally connected that set of dots and while he isn't sure, he believes it to be true.
Allow me to assist you Mr. Panetta. Yeah, it's fuckin' true moron.
How does this our country survive with leadership like this?

#2 Posted: 1/28/2012 9:20:57 AM Economic aid to Poc-ee-stan doubled in 2009 and 2010...
Could the Pakistani Government have a photo copy of Barry Soetoro non-US passport when he traveled to Pakistan in 1981 ? |

#3 Posted: 1/28/2012 10:53:54 AM While on the surface this appears to be cut and dry, the US relationship with Pakistan is a lot more complicated. Containment of nuclear weaponry and a desire to hold off Chinese influence in the region are key US strategy.
As for Bin Laden, we can assume with some degree of confidence that strategically it was beneficial to keep him alive and contained while collecting valuable Al Qaeda intelligence. Eventually the advantage of keeping him alive expired and he was taken out with surgeon-like precision.

#4 Posted: 1/28/2012 2:37:36 PM surgeon like precision = crashing a "secret helicopter " in his front yard.
That is like the surgeon drunk driving his miata into the operating room. |

#7 Posted: 1/28/2012 4:12:44 PM Hey Rick, you know wherever we go we have to leave at least 1 helicopter. Even when the mission is a huge success, they still get a helicopter as a consolation prize.
And Goose, "on the surface?" Shouldn't we expect some loyalty for $billions of dollars over 60 years? Like, they should be our best friends. I know money can't buy love, but come on now.
I just wonder how much military hardware we've supplied them that our guys are fighting against that's been funneled to the Taliban via Pakistan?
It's a legitimate question. |

#8 Posted: 1/28/2012 4:30:03 PM Considering we directly fund the Taliban I do not think we should worry about Pakistan funding the Taliban. |

#9 Posted: 1/28/2012 7:09:27 PM Damn, Killer, two threads in the top five that aren't biased or partisan in any way. Color me impressed!
The reality is that we use Pakistan and they use us. There is not love between us.
And we did know they were harboring Bin Laden. Its just that his death was nothing more than a moral victory because he was completly marginalized.
And Rick is right to a certain extent. We have supported the Taliban when it is in our interest.
Good thread and comments guys...and to think, none of you even worked in the 'state' |

#11 Posted: 1/28/2012 11:41:06 PM Panetta is the first American official to publicly confirm that a Pakistani doctor imprisoned by Pakistan’s intelligence service in the days after the Bin Laden raid had been working for the C.I.A., collecting intelligence in Abbottabad....
So Panetta gives credit to a Pakistani Doc ..that means the Doctor and his family's lives ought to be worth about..... a half of Rupee... |
