I'm thinking of purchasing a tablet

Sony, Apple, Samsung, Archos, Toshiba, Acer, Asus are the many varieties to choose from.

If an experienced-owned tablet owner can point out the flaws & benefits from each, that would be helpful!

Oh so many choices for sure. Not a fan of Apple, just too overpriced.  I will find some reviews for you and post them today.

I'd be interested in those reviews also.  Read a few on Cnet before.  Tried to get in on one of those discounted TouchPads, supposedly on some waiting list right now

u guys are crazy m ipad2 is fast, light, great graphics, and cool to the touch..and the app store is plus (way better than android's)...i havent even needed to jailbreak it to get those extra useful and cool apps!!!!  only thing about ipad2 is crappy camera, but not a big deal, thats what my phone is for!  i dont regret it all (while if u get an android youll always wonder about the ipad experience)...

Wonder about overpaying for that Apple logo on it.

Oh and having to pay $30 for a cable kit to have a USB connection.  Think I will watch something in Flash on it.  Oh wait, you can't do that either. And of course what you said about the crappy camera.

I have a tablet with Win 7 on it and it's great.  An actual OS on a tablet is great !!!  I have the Inspiron Duo for all my techs.

1. the camera is pass, most ppl dont care about the camera on ipad2 because they have phones and digital camera already...

2. your complaing about a $30 cable? really? besides, you can find less expensive ones on amazon...

3. flash??? there are several apps for that...

also the accelerometer on apple devices are still smoother than on any other device ive seen...and lets not forget APP STORE...developers develop for ios first! and sometimes ios  ONLY...   and because of all the different device sizes many android apps are fucked up...and lets not forget that not all android devices can be upgraded to certain OS versions...

I had a Blackberry Playbook.  Had until I left it on top of the car while putting my son in his car seat.

Anyways I was completely unsatisfied with the piece of garbage.  I really don't wanna pay $700 for an ipad2 if one of these android tablets can provide similar functionality.

I would like something with an HDMI connection, something I can tether with my blackberry and something where the web browser doesn't crash or lock up every 10-15 minutes.

I like the Playbook hardware and OS a lot and with the price cut to $299 for the 16GB, it should draw some interest.  They are just missing way too many of the popular apps you see on all the other platforms at this point.  RIM really needs to get their garbage together.

I personally think a lot of the Android tablets suck from trying them out.

I use a Nook Color and dual boot Cyanogen Android off the SD Card.  So I use the stock Android OS on the tablet for books and magazines and when I want a more pure Android tablet like experience, I run it off the SD Card.  I don't really need anything more than this and it's $250.

On top of the shitty apps and false promises from RIM, the functionality of the web browser was awful.  When it wasn't crashing I would always get these can't connect errors where i would have to shut down every tab in order to get it to work again.  The wifi signal is awful .... i live in a modest house and can't get a connection on my front porch or back deck.

What are the negatives about the Android tablets?

After some initial research it looks like my tethering requirement may be a significant issue with anything but a Playbook.  Man this sucks.

I have heard the wifi can have issues on the Playbook, haven't heard much about the browser itself being a problem.  Did you ever update or reload the OS?   Unless RIM is even dumber than I already have them pegged, the Playbook 2.0 software update should be coming up shortly.

I seriously would've bought a Playbook with this sale going on now in the US since I have a BlackBerry as my main phone.  But since they still can't even get the most popular apps you see on all the other platforms, I couldn't even get myself to buy the dumb thing.  Not paying $300 for what currently is basically a tablet with a browser and no real clear path going forward.

The negatives on the Androids are typical for Android phones/tablets.  Unless you are buying the higher spec'd, more expensive stuff, Android isn't the best since it seems to not be the most optimized OS out there.  I don't like a lot of the hardware either, especially most the lower priced stuff I looked at, but that's personal taste.  I also find the OS to have a bunch of little annoying things in it as well.

Yeah, one of the positives of the Playbook is that bridge thing for free tethering with your BlackBerry.

I actually didn't even need to use Bridge.  I just used simply straight bluetooth tethering. I know some service providers don't allow tethering or do with significant charges but the providers in Canada finally came to their senses last year and started allowing free tethering.  But we do have ridiculously low data caps.

after-all all this chatter....dude, get an ipad (the first one can be gotten at pretty low prices)...they just work...3rd party design and support for them is enormous as well...remember until something OUTRIGHT tops appl's tablet, all the tablets on the market are clones of the ipad!!!!!!!!  think about that for a sec... in fact, here we go again...
