#1 Posted: 1/26/2013 3:18:08 PM Jimmy Breslin's "mob comedy" The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight (1971) is on Turner Classic Movies Monday Jan 28th @ 4:30 am eastern time/1:30 am pacific.
pretty funny movie loosely based on the real life Joey Gallo crew who started a turf war within his own Profaci crime "family" in the 1960's. his crew infamous for screwing up many "plays" and "scores" they attempted which earned them their nickname which Breslin used in his novel.
stars Jerry Orbach (before he was Lenny Brisco in Law & Order) as the Gallo character "Kid Sally" Palumbo, Lionel Stander as the Joe Profaci character "Baccala" and a young Robert DiNero as Mario Trantino, an Italian illegal immigrant who poses as a priest to scam the mobsters.
it's NOT "The Godfather", "Casino" or "Goodfellas" BUT it's pretty funny with oodles of "sight gags" and oneliners, esp from "Baccala" who Stander plays as an old "Mustache Pete". definately worth recording IF you have never seen it |
