100 percent wrong. Those weapons that they want banned are the very ones that the people would need to have any chance against a govt that wants to become a dictator type govt.
Its comical how some of you believe so much, that there is no way the politicians would ever do this to our country. Just blows my mind that you are willing to disarm yourself and believe the corrupt politicians on their word.
I really cant believe people are still that gullible in todays world
Sorry cd, but these weapons are of no use if you would go against the govt forces. They would take you out and you wouldn't even hear the bang. Now maybe if you had a nuke in your back pocket that's a different story. Paranoia is awesome!! Besides, the military would split over a proposed dictatorship thus ensureing it wouldn't happen. And I believe there would be other countries that wouldn't let it happen. It would turn into a global affair and at that point you might as well put your head between your legs and kiss your azz goodbye.

Not even gonna respond to these things because no matter what i post, its going to disagree with you.
But how about the simple fact that the bad guys are still gonna have all these banned weapons. Dont you think the law abidding citizen deserves the right to have the same type of weapon to defend themselves and their families? Or should they use squirt guns on the bad guys?
also why is it because you believe these weapons should be banned, does it give you the right to trample on one of the most important amendments we have, where people have died defending it?
also you must not pay close attention how our govt works. They take away the assualt weapons first, then they come get the rest of the weapons, like those 20 guns you have

while i said earlier i agree with the right on this particular issue, i haven't read all of cd's posts, but what i have read, i disagree with everything he has said. and he has crossed over to right wing territory by comparing concern over children being murdered by guns with abortion which, as is obvious, completely ignores the women's right to control her own body as many rightwingers are inclined to do. these kinds of arguments are what makes it so distasteful to agree with the rightwing side on the rare occasions it seems to make any sense to me.

First off i have no real opinion in the abortion issue, but the point is if you are gonna have politicians wanting to save children lives from guns, then they should want to save childrens lives from abortions. Using that its a womans right to do whatever she wants with her body is a horrible weak arguement from the extreme leftists. Killing is killing simple as that. Politicians shouldnt be hypocrites and choosing what lives they want to save and dont save. Also your arguement about what a woman does with her body is her own business, thats completely wrong anyways, on the simple fact that its against the law and go get a shot and end her life, just like none of us can do that.
Also i stated from the start am not some right wing gun nut, am just a realist who can see thru the total line of BS the politicians are feeding us, unlike some here who are buying hook line and sinker.
Now i hope my thoughts are 100 percent wrong and never happen, but i still would rather side with caution and have the weapons around should these very things happen, because once their gone they are gone.
Far as extreme right winger, i dont think so considering i have been a democrat for a long time. But this isnt about democrat/republican this is about our politicians once again force feeding their will on us, while trampling on the Constitution in the process.
am never gonna be able to convince you are politicians arent doing this for a good reason, just like you arent gonna convince me that they are doing it to save lives.
I wonder if when all the weapons get banned, will the politicians and all the other hypocrites stop sending their kids to schools who have armed guards? Guess you dont see the irony of that

So the 2nd says it is a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If that is the case then everyone should have tha right including felons, mentally handicaped and all subversives, correct?
Since you have been dubbed as the one who "gets it " I'm suprised that you didn't know that felons are not law abiding citizens nor are subversives/ terrorist and as far as the mentally handicaped. That's another subject..how do you judge the mentally ill?
A former U.S. Surgeon General estimates that 20 % of Americans suffer from some type of mental illness. How would mental illness be defined?
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), the bible of the mental health profession, even lists cigarette smoking and coffee drinking as mental illnesses.
Now if it's been determined that someone is mentally incompetent not only should they not have a gun,but they should be involuntarily committed to a mental institution.

wait, preventing government from controlling what a woman does with her body is a horrible leftwing argument? why do you think abortion is legal then? what other argument is there? you're well into rightwing foxnews disease territory when you completely ignore the other side's argument or you go full 14daroad where you mischaracterise the other side's argument so it fits with what you want to disagree with. and to address your other foxnews induces comment, in the history of humanity, no child has ever died from abortion. only cells and fetuses.
now, back to the issue we are discussing. i know you are not a rightwinger, and i agree that the politicians only darn this issue up with more hastily passed, ill-conceived laws and more government intrusion. beyond that, i think the arguments made against gun control are largely stupid, not the least of which is the one about people buying this gun or that gun to be in a position to fight off the government, whose budget for arming itself is closer to a trillion than a billion but good luck fighting them off with your ar-15. it's not 1776 anymore.

yes, beating hearts and other organs. you see how easy it is to acknowledge the legitimacy of the other side's argument even when you don't agree with it. it's a terrible thing when a fetus is aborted. we can probably all agree on that. but to say children die from abortions makes someone sound stupid and the product of homeschool where the parents never opened a biology book, or a dictionary.

no, because when she is pregnant, she is having a baby but she has a fetus. no one said teaching english to rightwingers is easy, teaching english and about women and biology to rightwingers, damn near impossible.

So Club, you believe this ban will make children and adults safer in the country Yeah am sure all these bad guys will just come in police stations across the country and turn them in.
What some of you fail to realize on a giant scale is the fact even if we got rid of every gun maker in the country, the bad guys will still bring weapons into the country just the same way they bring drugs in. They will bring these guns in to do harm to law abidding citizens who no longer have anything to defend themselves with. I know we can all use sling slots to defend us from the bad guys, that should work.
Guns are actually a deterrent to criminals. Guns however not a deterrent to mentally sick people who just want to kill others. And like i said before, when the sickos cant get hold of weapons, then they will resort to making bombs which will cause a lot more deaths.
If law abidding citizens were killing each other with guns, then i would be first in line to say we have a problem and weapons should be gone. But that isnt whats happening, people with mental health problems are the ones who are doing all the killing. So why should the good law abidding people have to give up their rights of owning weapons outside of a single shot shotgun or musket.
and also you are wrong about hundreds of millions of weapons owned by hundreds of millions of people not being able to handle govt forces with ar-15's because our total military force only is between a million and milion five hundred thousand. Sheer numbers woould win out, if the citizens had weapons. On top of that each battle the citizens won, they would aquire better weapons.
I hope a scenario like this will never take place, but do you trust the corrupt power driven politicians running our country, not to do something like this? I dont, thats why i side with caution. Law abidding citizens owning guns doesnt bother me one bit and shouldnt faze you either. Its the nuts we need to stop from doing the killing, but truth is with a population of over 300 million people, there is just no way to stop people from killing. Its impossible. If theres a will theres a way.
Also like i said before am not some person standing outside holding signs protesting abortions, but please dont try to blow smoke up my butt with your biology crap. If you really dont think a fetus is a living human being thats your problem and i doubt anybody could tell you otherwise. This is the BS my party{democrat] trys to tell people.
Just once i would love to see a democrat or republican on this site ever cross party lines. It appears am the only one who ever does it and thats probably because am a free thinker

A lot of you have been on don about using the sandy hook incident to push gun control. Saying thats wrong, why? When is the right time, never? Maybe between incidents, sorta hard to do that since we don't know when the next time is going to happen. Maybe when one of your loved ones gets caught in one of hose incidents, god forbid. So hen is he best time?

Also Club, lets just say our sicko politicians have a goal of turning our country into a russia or china. Are you just gonna sit back and say oh well, thats the way it goes or are you gonna want to remove those politicians from power and change the country back.
Sure its a what if question, but truth is everything in life really is a what if question. Its just like wanting to be prepared and know what to do if your house catches fire or what you would do if somebody breaks into your home while your sleeping. Every aspect of life is what if and thats why you need to look at the worst case scenarios of what could happen if our politicians went off the deep end. When govt plans for diasters, they certainly dont make plans for best case scenarios, they plan for worst case ones. Now if the human race wasnt corrupt by nature, we wouldnt even be having this talk.
I mean do you really think our politicians do the things they do because they are honest and want to help us? You cant really buy that, do you

no, if you read my posts on this, i said i think these reactionary gun control laws are opportunistic and ill conceived. i do not think they would be effective. i am against more laws and more government that i don't think will solve problems. i think you have a good argument there. beyond that, i think the pro-gun arguments tend to get ridiculous.

Darkhorse the sad truth is there is never gonna be the right time because we live in a population of 300 million and bad things are gonna happen everyday in life somewhere. We cant stop it and writing laws aint gonna stop bad things from happening. We cant be put in some protective bubble to stop bad things from happening.
drunk drivers kill people, get rid of all alcohol. cigarettes kill people, get rid of them. cars kill people, get rid of all of them, airplanes kill people, get rid of all of them. You see the point, we cant stop bad things from happening. You just have to learn to accept that fact and still live life. We dont live in a perfect world and politicians cant pass laws to make one.
I probably understand risk then most here. When i was working and i went on a call to help people, there was always that possibilty that it would be my last call. This is something i accepted, if i wanted to do that job. Same goes for life, when you wake up and hit the road, you dont know if a drunk driver is gonna crash into you at any moment, but you accept that risk or else you wouldnt drive. If i should die because somebody kills me with a gun, thats just the way it goes.
SOCIETY ISNT PERFECT AND NEVER WILL BE

And Darkhorse, hundreds of millions of people with good weapons, would be a match for govt forces, unless they are the ones using nukes
Just how many hundreds of millions are you talking about? There are approx 315 million people in the us. My guess would be maybe 1 or 2 hun thou at the most. Also in my opinion it would never happen (another civil war) at least military wise. The only revolution that will happen is politically. And only after a he ll of a lot of people wake up.

Oh I understand risk where you did it for pay I did it vountarily. I also work on the highways, that's my job and I know at any given time I could get whacked .But putting more weapons out there that could end up in the criminals hands is not the answer. Especially those that have no purpose other than to kill as many and as fast as possible.

Darkhorse, felony conviction can strip an individual of certain civil rights. Including the right to bear arms. Both federal and state laws consider a felon to be disqualified to purchase or possess a firearm.
