Aren't you intellectually challenged righties usually complaining about the liberal elite?

Do you really want to look at the numbers that don't back up what you are saying (look at Matt's post).

Republicans don't want to keep people poor and neither do Dems. Both have differences in how we deal with the unfortunate.

Dems often create a safety net that allows for misuse and abuse thereby helping to foster the spending and budget issues.

Republicans often look to cut said safety net allowing legitimate situations of people who are destitute to fall between the cracks, thus increasing the homeless, less educated, and health issues.

But by all means, keep pointing the fingers directly at the Dems as Fox News tells you.

Club, I see the same problem, too. There are plently of abuses on our welfare system but to this date, I still couldn't find a person that could tell me what's the breakdown-- people actually getting legitimate help vs abusers. Instead of finding ways to cure the problem, lets just paint them with the same brush as if that's the most effective way to get your message across.

I don't care where they are from or what color they are. By the way, since more white people are on welfare than black people (at least that is what I am told) it wouldn't be racist to get rid of or minimize welfare.

Anyway, I bet if those people were polled on who they voted for Obama probably got over 95%.

bunny, no doubt there are a lot who abuse the system.  our government is set up to be abused.  when the katrina fund came out, do you know how you applied for and received the funds?  you called a 800 number and asked for funds.  and you got them.  that thing was abused all to hell.  and we'll never know how many on welfare actually use it correctly because they need it as a last resort or need it temporarily to help them get on their feet.  surely, there are many. 

and i'm not necessarily agreeing that the democrats want to keep their base by offering easy benefits and buying votes.  but theoretically at least, i think there is an argument for the other side.

So basically you are implying that  that the number of people who are democrats in these overwhelmingly red states (already a minority in their respective state alone) who do not pay taxes are so many that they enter in the top 10 of the country who do not pay taxes? That does not add up.

And how about the 10 states with the fewest people in the "47%". They are mainly blue states. How do you deal with this information? After all they are primarily democratic right?

I am not looking to get in an argument. I am just pointing out that when you look at the real numbers it does not support the theory that many try to make about the party lines of the people "receiving handouts". 

If anything it would suggest the opposite (although I am not actually going to make this claim but it is what the data suggests).

I live down south in Mississippi and I have been arguing your point with poor whites that are on government assistance programs for years. They blindly vote "R" every local election against their own interest,because the republican talking heads on fox news and clear channel tell them that its the illegal Mexicans or its the blacks taking from you"the real americans" See Santorum's quote as a good example"I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money and provide for themselves and their families.”

My opinion is everyone should pay the same tax rate (5%, 10%, 20%, whatever) so everyone has some "skin in the game."

You would think by writing this article the author would be saying one of two things:

 "those 47% should be paying something too." 

or...

"Gotcha Mitt. Most of the people who don't pay income tax come from states you are going to win."

I have a feeling he wrote it because of the latter.
I'm not running for office so I can say everyone should pay
something, even if it is small. A politician can't say that.

For the sake of the current discussion it really does not matter what the words in the article say or what the intent of the author is. The meaning of the map is all that matters and those are numbers that are separate from anybody's opinion.

for all purposes it may as well be an article about how shitty the Eagles O-Line is this year and how Vick is getting sacked left and right. And it just so happened that the map in the link was accidentally inserted in the middle of the article. 

The point is that the take home message in the map is the same either way.

Comment: The Eagles O-Line must be shitty. I'm a Saints season ticket holder. I was there. I can't remember the last time we had 7 sacks.

Eagles O-Line is absolutely terrible. Comical to watch actually. I wish the Brees connected with COlston for about 10 more yards. They are both on my FF team and I lost by 1.5 points. 

In my opinion if people have legit reasons than there should be some tax relief for them. But that this should not go unchecked for long durations of time.

But that is not what Mitt was trying to say at all.

The Mitt comment was as follows (copy and pasted)

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what," Romney said in the video. "There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it."

There is no other way this comment can be interpreted. This comment spurred on further research by people that resulted in the information that is in the map in that link I posted.

I think some kind of FLAT TAX or sales tax will result so everybody pays their fair share Or at least something

And $$SRH, my white child just walked out the door to the Plano/Allen HS game and guerss what I called him, " Ni..............." Only cuz' i know how to talk his lingo

It is truly astonishing how that noun is thrown around these days, especially if you are really "kooool"

This younger "social" generation is sooooooo much different than the one, I assume, most of us Cova's brothers grew up in Obviously, reinforced by TUESDAY's election results Just sayin....

Tilt, i like that question and i was sort of rambling on, but as i am always so pessimistic about politicians, that must apply to democrats as well. I have a pretty good idea how the republicans manipulate their group. How do the democrats do the same thing. Maybe their best tool is telling the poor the rich need to pay more, throw the poor a few bones, not enough to make much of a difference but enough to keep them coming back for more and hate the republicans who thresten to take the easy money away
