I just won the Covers Experts bowl contest. That's kind of nice I suppose but here's the deal - I don't actually bet any games with real money. I haven't been to Vegas in 12 years and I just do some games and contests here for kicks. So what am I actually supposed to do with $500 worth of free picks from Covers Experts. Call me crazy but I'd rather just have a hat and hoodie. |

If Garrard is out for sure, I'd go with Houston. They will rally at home in their final game for Kubiak who they like even if he sucks as a coach.

Saw them in person last night. They're the real deal. I wish I had them for more money but I did make a bit on them and the over last night. I'd say they're one guard away from being a Final Four team, and Williams could be a lottery pick for sure.

BTW, I'm 68-60-2 on the year and in 295th place in the college basketball league contest. Houston has lost its two road games by double digits. I don't think LSU is anything special either but I see that trend continuing. But I was wrong about last year in basketball - these two teams didn't play each other. |

LSU at home vs. Houston. The line was -8 when I got it but it will go up to at least 10 I'm guessing by game time. UH isn't a good team and they beat LSU last year so the Tigers will have revenge as a motive. I predict a 15-20 point win.

TCU-USC is a tough one to figure. I should like TCU because they're undefeated at home (easy wins over SMU, Houston) and they seem to play better against faster tempo teams. USC has lost quite a few straight on the road. But something is keeping me from going heavy on TCU - maybe it's just the fact they're not that great? |

Rice isn't horrible anymore - I've seen them four times in person already this year. They have a 6-7 sophomore from Iran who can play, believe it or not. But I doubt they cover this game.

I don't get that line. Weber State is good - they were picked to win the Big Sky and lost close games at Utah and Utah State (they led the Aggies at half and Utah had like 40 free throws against them). They have a guy averaging 27 points in three games who is Big Sky preseason player of the year. Meanwhile, UAA is 1-2 against DII competition and has lost their last four opening games in this tournament by an average of 16 1/2 points. And a couple of those teams were probably worse than Weber. |

I'm in Houston and saw HBU play a few games last year. They're just okay - they play hard but don't have a lot of talent. Usually they stay in games but don't win them. They have one nice player - Gonzales - who can score and I see he's off to a good start. But I see he missed 1 game earlier this year and don't know why. If he doesn't play, they have no chance. Even with him, I'm not sure they cover. Their first three opponents aren't in ASU's class, and I think you're downplaying who the Sun Devils have played (UAB is decent, and they lost at New Mexico which is a very tough place to play). I do think HBU will be up for this game - might be the biggest one in their school's history since it's on TV. Quote Originally Posted by Blakejeff:

What about Weber State? It's not like UAA wins a ton of these games (they do a little better than Chaminade but not much). I see they were 1-2 at Disney a couple of weeks ago against DII competition. I just don't see them being within 10 of an average D1 program.

They had 31 wins last year and only lost to Butler by 2 in the 2nd round of the NCAA's. They return a bunch of players - they're legit.

It's being played in Mexico and Wyoming's starting point guard is back at the hotel with a stomach ailment (didn't his coach tell him not to drink the water?). Both teams look like crap to be honest but Wyoming's looks like twice as bad crap as Mizzou. If there is a 2nd half number, you might like Missouri. Wyoming is gassed already.

I haven't had a ton of success lately but I'd look at Rice +3 1/2 vs. UAB. The Owls had 62 last weekend vs. ECU and over 600 yards of total offense. They almost put up 50 the week before that at Tulane (with the #2 and 3 QB's). They got their #1 QB back finally last week (1st full game since the first game of the year) and he didn't miss a beat.
Their defense still sucks but they played okay in 2nd half against ECU (although ECU quit after getting down too much). |

I've seen Rice play every home game this year - stay away from them my friends. I don't know if they have any enthusiasm anymore for this season. They have some talent, especially on offense, but their defense is brutal. And injuries have really mounted on them, especially at OL and LB. Plus the 2nd string QB (Cook) who led them in the second half last week at Tulane is out I believe with an injury. Now they might get their 3rd string QB back for this game - he's barely played this year due to injury but some Rice fans think he should be the starter anyway. I'd say go with the over even though it's so ridiculously high but now I'm not so sure with that QB uncertainty. |

29-19 on the year (+3800 units) best plays Arizona State -8 vs. UAB and Georgia -1 at St. Louis. Both UAB and St. Louis lost a lot from last year - not sold on either team at this point. Also going with three Mountain West teams in TCU (pick-em vs. Rider on neutral court), SD State (-13 vs UW-GB), and UNLV (-3 1/2 vs. Wisconsin), and against one MWC team in Tennessee State (+3) at Air Force. I was impressed w TCU's athletes vs. SMU and just feel Rider will be a little jet-lagged after their nice win at USC. Tennessee State has lost two close games on the road at much better D1 teams than Air Force (which is coming off a home loss to a D3 team). And am going against one more CUSA team in Chattanooga +12 vs. Marshall. The Herd are another team not as good as last year with a new coach. Too many points for a neutral game. |

Nice info - thanks. I did throw out Portland State yesterday and that was a bad pick although I did go 3-1 on the day so that was my only loss. SMU's coach threw his players under the bus after they got blown out by TCU and this time they responded. I still think they aren't any good and I'll be over Lamar if they are a dog against SMU. |

5-5 yesterday but missed final two games so had a minus day in units. I'm liking some early games for Friday including one huge line in Portland State +7 at SMU. I don't understand this line one bit - SMU is 0-2, losing badly to UA-Little Rock and getting blown out at TCU. Portland State beat Pepperdine at home - the same Waves team which played UCLA tough and beat Nevada by a point at Pauley. This is a pick-em game at best in my eyes - don't understand this one bit. |

21-13 on the year (2-2 yesterday) Nebraska +6.5 (neutral court in Puerto Rico vs. Vandy) East Carolina +17.5 (returns a lot - new coach in Jeff Lebo and they're playing hard for him off the bat) Central Florida -6.5 (underrated team - another new coach in Donnie Jones) Pitt -6 Minnesota -4.5 Illinois -2.5 (wasn't impressed by Texas at all on TV - their two Canadian freshmen might be okay but they need them to be as good as DJ Augustine and Kevin Durant and they didn't look anywhere close to that). Santa Clara -7 (mixed feelings - only playing this cuz I know Rice is horrible on the road)

I think I'm with you on Santa Clara although USC's loss last night left me puzzled. Rice did beat Santa Clara last year and is much better this year, but so is Santa Clara, and as you said, Rice is horrible on the road. I've seen Rice three times this year in person already - I'm with you but it's a small play in my eyes. And if Rice does cover, then keep an eye on them as a darkhorse in future games.
