You always punt in that scenario. I bet NE and won so not coloring my opinion with emotion. Bet you he wouldn't do it again in the same spot. Manning is in his head!

wrong thawv!!!. As soon as New England missed 4 and 2 the game was effectively over. Most people knew that watching. Also look at the sidelines both teams knew it too. Massive momentum shift and Peyton wasn't going to throw away the gift just handed to him. Where do we get these idiot posters from?

They werent going to stop payton anyway with a 2 min drive to win the game punt or not their only chance was to get 1 yard for a first down and then they win the game right then and there....
Honestly do you think you have a better chance as Pats O who has been churning Indy D all night for 1 yard? Or stopping a REDDD HOTTT Payton Manning who just led his team down the field with two 2 minute drives in the 4th quarter? Honestly YOU TELL ME!?

I'm sure this was probably already said in the post, but I'm gonna say it anyway. Pats should have let the Colts score right away and then come down and kick a field goal to win it. Colts couldn't stop them anyway.

Since they got the ball 1st and 10 on the 28 just let them score and you still have plenty of time to get in field goal range for the win
Bill didn't trust the defense and he overlooked the reason why the Colts scored so easily and so quickly the previous drive was the 31 yard P.I. penalty on Butler on 3rd down and F'n 5!!!!!
A tipped pass that is picked, a fumble, a forced throw, or just stopping them were all the possibilities for NE if they had punted...Once you gave Manning the ball at the Patriots 28 you let them score because that D didn't stop them from the spot all night they stopped them after Manning tried to nickel and dime his way down the field and then couldn't make the big gain pass when he needed it and they kept punting on 3rd and fives and what not.....
The timeout the Pats had to use to get the right personnel on the field is also on Bellichick and was a warning sign of the foggy logic we were about to witness. They use a timeout before the first play and you are gonna tell me they came up with a 1 yard run up the middle as the drives 1st down play? Pathetic! Should have never been in the 4th and 2 situation should have iced the game on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd down. What do you think the Colts were expecting on first down? Should have threw the damn ball down the field not run right up the middle into their suspecting defenses arms.
Don't try to justify Bill's stupid move. It was nothing more than a gamble with little logic behind it at all. Just because someone on WEEI comes up with percentages league wide of teams converting in these situations doesn't mean it was a justifiable play. It was profoundly stupid and any expert talking about it today will agree.

Can't believe any of you guys who know football think that was a good call. Guarantee Belli is 2nd guessing himself bigtime on that one. Would yall think it was the right call had they been on their 10/15 instead of the 30? Why not - basically the same reasoning & premise would apply. By your thinkin, what's another 15/20 yds for Manning & by punting, he'd have even a shorter field to go.
Yall act like cuz Manning is so great (& he is), he was the only factor involved in them goin 65-75yds to score and/or like they'd been movin the ball & scorin at will the whole game. Hell, even in the 4th qtr when they were rollin, most of the guys were pretty well covered & Manning was making near perfect throws & gettin great catches. Crazy ass decision - no matter how good/hot PM & his receivers are, lots of things can happen outside that to stop 'em when you punt & give 'em a long field with the pressure of goin all the way in less than 2 mins with only 1 TO. Penalties, fumble, INT, sacks (unlikely but possible), dropped balls/pressured throws, etc, etc. Maybe the worst big game coaching decision I've ever seen - way too much respect for PM & lack of faith in the Pats D & prob a combo of both, but stupid nonetheless. You got to make even God himself go the long haul & just tip you're hat if he gets it done - lol

How scared do you think Peyton Manning was when they snapped the ball on 4th down?? If you could pause time in that second when the ball snapped I really bet Peyton and the Colts were all wishing they would've just punted it away. I'm a huge colts fan and I was praying they were just trying to draw the defense off then punt it away.

As betting people which side would you rather take........... Tom Brady 1 play needs 2 yards vs Peyton Manning 2 minutes, 70 yards to go needs a touchdown. Obviously other things come into play just looking at it from a different perspective..

Belicheat is an idiot. 4th and inches, MAYBE, but 4th and 2 from your own 30?? w/ peyton and co only needing 30 yards in 2 minutes. you punt make them go 80+ yards, it's a no brainer. it has nothing to do with trusting your defense. now, what was worse, the terrible execution of that 4th down play, or the actual play call itself.. the cheaters gave that one to the colts. dumb coaching, period

You're right Bra.....Manning was going to score no matter where he got the ball....the Pats defense had no pressure on him...give him time and he will kill you. BB knew this..his only chance was to go for it............That was Belichick being Belichick

Since Brady has been QB for Pats the team is over 60% on converting 4th and 2's (ESPN pulled stat)...with the way things were going in the game, I'd give Colts 50% chance of scoring if they punt...BB made right call

Hey guess what.. this is all hindsight.. Imagine what everyone would be saying if the Colts blocked the punt and ran it back for a TD I would make a bet everyone bitching and crying would be the same people bitching saying "WHY DIDNT HE JUST GO FOR 4th and 2! THey are 80% and the COLTS DID NOT STOP THE PATS O ALL NIGHT"

Flacco will be back with his A game and Ray Rice will have a field day in cleveland... Jamal Lewis?
Quinn might get some throws down the field against the Ravens secondary but he will also throw some pick 6's.. The Ravens will step up on MNF finally they NEED THIS GAME AND WILL PROVE THEY ARE BETTER THEN THEIR 4-4 RECORD SHOWS BY BLOWING THE DOORS OFF OF THE BROWNIES!

First of all Wank stain, I mean flute I have played sport at a high level far higher then a flute like you. Secondly Rodney Harrison completely agreed with me and made the exact point I made after I posted. Now I think I will take a Superbowl, all pro winners opinion over yours. I hate fcuking idiots like you. Think they are smart but havent a fcuking clue what they are actually talking about...
I played sport at a very high level, Rodney harrison agreed w me so im right. That is your eveidence to prove your point.
The only wrong people in this thread are the ones who think there opinion is 100% right. NOONE has the nessesary imformation to make the argument that they are correct. Without stats to back up your ranting it is just an opion that you are demanding is correct. Everyone can have an opinion and say they thing its correct, thats awsome. But if you are going to so strongly demand your opinion is correct bring a little more evidence to the table than those two hilarious comments above.
Wait i can see the next one coming
"every other coach in the league would have punted there too"

Can't agree more. Peyton basically said this after the game.
I asked this on my own thread. Nobody really directly answered it. I'll ask it again here.
What would be the right move for the Colts if it was up to them? The Pats would punt or they would go...Its up to the Colts to decide. I can guarantee you if the Colts said go and they made it, people would be saying it was the wrong decision.
It was calculated risk and the odds were in Belichick's favor. I'm really scratching my head that a forum full of gamblers can't see to understand the concept of calculated risk....
