Big difference, Daworm. The Steelers of three years ago had the strength of a #2 seed but major injuries dropped them to just a #6 seed. That's why they were favored in their first road playoff game at Cincinnati, because by the time the playoffs started, they had enough players back from injury.

bator, don't forget that a big factor in pittsburgh winning that playoff game against cincy was the fact that palmer went down early with a leg injury on LONG td pass. Pitt would have had a much tougher game that day, doubt they win it.
But I agree Giants get rolled big time. This 2 week delay hurts the momentum of the Giants and really helps the Pats. How is this Giant secondary going to cover the recievers. Wthout pressure Giants are in big trouble.

Remember the giants were up by 12 points in the second half against the pats and still could not hold on to win. Patriots will dominate this game much like indy did to chicago last year and in the manner that most afc teams do in the superbowl. Something like 35-17 pats over giants.

Hmm, I wonder how many times Patriots players have heard people diminishing their Super Bowl victories by pointing out that they won each game by only 3 points? Seems to me if I played for the Patriots I'd be interested in putting that nonsense to rest......by winning this one by 3 touchdowns!
Bator: I like the play a lot. Good luck. I got my number at - 11 and already placed a large wager.
Hope to end the NFL on a good note here.
Best of luck in the NBA this year. I may be back for the NBA playoffs. I went on a crazy 30-10 run last year...

You probably had a bet going on Cincy. And it was people like you who bet on Indy because the Steelers shouldn't have beat Cincy, and then you bet on Den because the Steelers shouldn't have beat Ind and Cin. And you would have lost all 3 games.
Fact of the matter is, you can't try to say "what would have happened" because there's every play would change and the result is totally unknown. To say Cincy would have won is pretty bold and there's no way to know.
As for the Giants and the Steelers a few years back, you need to know when a team is poised for that run and you need to know when to jump off. Betting against the Giants the last 3 weeks and you lost all 3, same like the Steelers. Now that the "hot streak" is done, you need to reevaluate the situation over this 2 week break to see if NY is capable of coming w/in 2 TDs of NE. But the point is, I hope you didn't fade the Giants like you may have faded the Steelers or you would be 0-6 in those games...

MrBator, I have a question that hasn't been asked yet......this is like FAQ with our Professor, so I have to take advantage, hope im not too late to the thread......so Dr. Bator....hehe. Love the picks as always, wish I was on the Giant side of things this past Sunday. To my question now. This line of 53.5. My initial reaction to this line was I thought the books were thinking the public will be all over the OVER, so they made it high to give themselves a chance. But it appears the the public has hopped on the UNDER.......Total hasnt really changed much since it came out. I was also thinking under under under, but the line is holding at 53.5. Is this a conspiracy? What are your thoughts?

Hey Mr. Bator, i feel like I am asking this question to the almighty OZ ( having some fun)
Anyway, I took a future bet on the AFC over the NFC in august, th el ine was 3.5 I took the ml at -180, have it for a few dimes, looking for the middle, sitting at 12 right now, i think when the media see's brady out of the boot and practicing this goes back to 13 maybe 14, maybe higher, I am in New England so that may drive it up a .5 by itself.
Do you think the line moves higher? if it hits 14, may buy the half and put 1 dime on it. thoughts?

Beanbag, you are a shrewd betor who's sitting on a masterful future bet that is definetely going to win. WHY are you looking to screw up any part of that by going for a middle that WON'T happen? I recommend that you sit tight with your AFC -180 play. No, actually, I insist.

i was thinking the same thing about sitting tight and a friend of mine put the "middle" in my head, I appreciate your "insisting" i will sit back and enjoy.
As far as being shrewed thanks, i took the afc, thinking it would be the pats, indy or pitt, everything i had read said the nfc was so much weaker, the other factor is i only had to put half of it up at the time, the rest on credit.

If you have been around the last few months you know this puts a smile on your face (You know it does)
Pats Roll.........................
Im wondering if I should take them now before 15000+ covers lookers unload

BOL to you and your plays.
Another smart decision.
Sadly, your friend may be a gutless lemon. Keep an eye on him.

Mr Bator, the line is now -12.5 and 53.5 at wagerline.com
any thoughts on the under/over in the 1st Half and your side pick?
Would you still consider NE + under for the 1st H too as you have picked NE+Under for the whole game.? Thank you
mackee, I like the Patriots in the 1st half if you can get -7 EVEN or -7.5 +125. No action for me on the 1st half under as the Patriots might swamp them in the first 30 minutes. Understand that I like the Patriots a WHOLE lot more than I like the under. I could always throw the under back by taking over 55 +110.

I know when you bet MLs you're almost always on the dog, but how is there not value in the pats at -450ish!? I'd say the real line in this spot is giants 10-1. I'm thinking about a serious wager on the ML so I can rest easy. Will you be betting on the ML as well or are you just fundamentally against betting a -450 ML?

Pats ML -450 is a great value and a laughably easy winner, but since I feel so strongly about a SU win of no less than 17 points, why would I bother with the moneyline?

I hear what you're saying, good luck with your wager. No matter how you slice it though alot can happen when you lay 11-12 points as you know....Pats could dominate and still not cover. I never thought I'd say this for a big fav but I'm taking the ML. Got a great line -425......$4,250 to win $1,000 is my wager. Hopefully we both cash in on Super Sunday!
