Ice picks: Tuesday's best NHL bets

Red Wings vs. Blues (+180, 5)

 

The Blues are coming off a nasty nine-game road trip that took them west, east, and back home again where they’ll face divisional rival Detroit tonight.

 

St. Louis lost eight games during the trip and the team is coming off a physical overtime loss to the Blackhawks two nights ago. Expect some tired legs on defense, which isn’t good against a team that hasn’t been held to fewer than three goals in any of its last four.

 

Pick: over five goals

 

Boston vs. Toronto (-135, 5 1/2)

 

There was no line out Tuesday morning for this game but we thought it was important to mention anyway. The Bruins hold the last playoff spot in the East with Toronto trailing by just four points, so we should see a dogfight.  

 

The reason the line was delayed is because there is some major star power missing. Mats Sundin is out for the Leafs and Marc Savard and Andrew Ference are out for the Bs.

 

Toronto swept a back-to-back set against the Bruins a week ago, so expect this one to get feisty. The two clubs meet again Thursday night.

 

Pick: Boston

  

Vancouver vs. Calgary (-125, 5)

 

The Canucks’ MVP has a little distraction right now. Goalie Roberto Luongo is expecting his wife to have their first child in the first week of April when the Canucks play their last four games of the season.

 

The problem with that is, Vancouver is fighting for its playoff life right now. The club is just three points ahead of ninth-place Edmonton and just three points behind the Minnesota Wild for top spot in the Northwest Division.

 

Chances are, Luongo will be off to South Florida where is wife is whenever she has their baby. And proper thing. But her pregnancy has had some complications and it has to be on the goalie’s mind as the due date gets closer.

 

You wouldn’t know it, judging by the four goals he’s allowed over the past three games. But it’s something to keep in mind, not just for tonight’s game, but also for the remainder of the season.

Whats up Scoot, hein, t dot tom , cujo and unit and to everyone else tonight I'm liking Bos/Tor - S/O - Both teams with out their two star players plus are both fighting for a playoff spot going to be a tight game Like Tor to win in S/O also Liking phi/nyr- S/O last two meetings have gone into shootouts and both teams playing for playoffs The same goes for Wash/Car- S/O Both teams playing well especially carolina however wash is also in the playoff hunt thinking its going to be close also like Van- 15-6-2 in last 23 meetings against cal and believe it or not I like STL- Det is 1-4 in last 5 meetings to Stl and lastly Fla- is 7-3 against Tbay plus are in the playoff hunt Good Luck Guys ( Also Orann Take your B.S and negative attitude somewhere else their is no need for that on this page)

Orann make me crazy a fiew time whit stupid post but the last one is true. 03/25/08 04:55PM People stop wasting your time and learn how to make money with this instead of just making picks, picking winners and making money on sports is 2 diff. things! sometime a lots peoples give some picks whit any reason "wash,habs,leafs,oilers...bla,bla,bla" it's the worst think to do....try to find the good value is the best thing to do. Analysis:

Things simply continue to roll for me as I have had an excellent May.  I've found a ton of success in MLB and that includes another sweep Tuesday that brings my overall run to 11-1.  That doesn't even include yesterday's free play on the Angels, which won 12-0! Tonight, I'm recommending the Cardinals over the Padres as we're getting the much better team at a very good price.

Here are my keys to the game:

1. Yesterday - After surprisingly losing Monday's opener, the Cardinals came back to really beat up on the Padres, winning 10-2. That win gives St. Louis the best WL record as well as the best run differential in Major League Baseball.  Therefore, the fact they come into tonight as a virtual Pick Em against a sub-.500 foe with a bad starting pitcher looks like a real bargain, at least to me.

2. Unknown over the Known - This applies to the starting pitching matchup as the Padres will send out Burch Smith, who has made two starts so far and neither has gone well.  He first allowed six runs in one inning, then allowed five more Friday vs. Washington, here at home. San Diego has obviously lost both starts.  They should lose another here as the Cardinals are 25-11 vs. right-handed starters this season.  Meanwhile, St. Louis goes with Tyler Lyons, making his MLB debut Wednesday. San Diego has a losing record vs. lefties.

3.  X-Factor - The Cardinals sure had a lot of their own fans at Petco last night.  I'm sure they all didn't make the trip out to San Diego for just one game.
