Sportsbooks offshore and in Las Vegas are adjusting Dallas Cowboys future odds after news broke the NFL is suspending star running back Ezekiel Elliott for the first six games of the season.

The Cowboys were 10/1 to win the Super Bowl at Sportsbook.ag, but the book bumped them up to 13/1 following the news of the suspension. Dallas’ bad news is of course good news for its division rivals.

“We lowered the Giants’ [Super Bowl odds] quite a bit, from 22/1 to 18/1,” Sportsbook.ag oddsmaker Peter Childs told Covers. “We were already exposed on the Giants and I suspect we will see more money now. All NFC East teams’ win totals are closed for now.”

In Las Vegas, the Westgate SuperBook adjusted its odds to win the NFC East moving the Cowboys from 5/4 to 7/4, the New York Giants from 11/5 to 9/5, the Philadelphia Eagles from 7/2 to 13/4 and the Washington Redskins from 6/1 to 21/4.

“We currently have the Cowboys’ Week 1 odds, season wins and 'will they make the playoffs' prop bet off the board,” Westgate linemaker Randy Blum told Covers. “We want to make sure the report is accurate and see if there is a possible appeal.”

Dallas backers remember former defensive lineman Greg Hardy was initially handed a 10-game suspension before it was lowered to four games.

The Westgate also changed the Cowboys’ Super Bowl odds from 10/1 to 12/1 while the Green Bay Packers went from 10/1 to 8/1 to win the Super Bowl.

The Cowboys win total was at 9.5 before the suspension was announced for Elliott. The Westgate didn’t change any of the win totals for the Giants (8.5), Eagles (8) or Redskins (7.5) but the book did increase the juice on the Over for each team by about 20 cents.

Offshore shop Bookmaker.eu changed its odds for Dallas to win the Super Bowl from 11/1 to 13/1 in reaction to the Elliott news.

The running back position doesn’t hold as much value to the line as it did in years’ past. Oddsmakers differed when polled in mid-July as to how many points Elliott was worth to the Cowboys’ line. We had one oddsmaker tell us two points while another told us more like a point or a point and a half.

"While oddsmakers at BookMaker fully anticipate Elliott's suspension to be reduced to four games, his absence doesn't impact Dallas' odds too greatly," BookMaker.eu spokesperson Scott Cooley told Covers. "As far as his value to a game spread, he is worth about 0.5 points depending on the opponent."

The Cowboys face the Giants in Week 1 of the regular season and were between 4 and 5-point favorites before Elliott’s suspension was announced. Elliott rushed for 1631 yards and 15 touchdowns as a rookie last season.
