1987 (Boxing): In one of the most controversial decisions in boxing history, Sugar Ray Leonard earns a split decision victory over "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler. Leonard was a +260 underdog entering "The Super Fight." Hagler retired from boxing 14 months after the fight declaring that he was "tired of waiting" for Leonard to grant him a rematch.
1992 (College Basketball): As a 6-point favorite, Duke wins the National Championship for the second year in a row after blowing out Michigan's Fab Five, 71-51. Bobby Hurley was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as the Blue Devils entered the tournament as +300 favorites to win the title. The Wolverines remain as the last #6 seed to reach the National Championship.
1993 (NBA): As a 20½-point road underdog, the Dallas Mavericks defeat the Seattle SuperSonics 109-107. The Mavericks, who entered the game with a record of 7-64, shot 57% from the floor and were led by rookie guard Jim Jackosn's 18 points. Dallas managed to win 3 additional games the rest of the season and avoided setting the mark for the worst record in NBA history (9-73, by the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers).
2009 (College Basketball): North Carolina wins their 5th National Championship after defeating Michigan State, 89-72. The Tar Hills covered the spread in each of their tournament games (with an average 20-point margin of victory), including the title game where they were 7½-point favorites. Wayne Ellington was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after scoring 19 points in the title game.
