Cole Caufield tied the game with 10 seconds left in regulation and scored the game-winner 2:22 into overtime as the Montreal Canadiens snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the visiting St. Louis Blues on Thursday.

Caufield's heroics gave new coach Martin St. Louis his first victory in four tries. It also ended an 0-8-2 slide since Montreal's last win on Jan. 18.

Paul Byron, playing in his 500th NHL game, scored the other goal for the Canadiens and Sam Montembeault made 25 saves for Montreal, which was 0-8-2 since its last victory on Jan. 18.

With Montembeault off the ice for an extra attacker, the Canadiens tied the game 2-2 when Caufield's sharp-angled shot from the left side got past Ville Husso. Caufield took a feed from Jeff Petry and beat Husso for the OT winner, his fifth goal of the season.

Pavel Buchnevich and Robert Thomas scored, and Husso finished with 27 saves for the Blues, who killed off all five Montreal power plays and scored a shorthanded goal but could not close out the win.

The Canadiens took 1-0 lead 7:13 into the game when Artturi Lehkonen's cross-crease pass found Byron for a tap-in, his first goal of the season.

The Blues tied the game 1-1 on Thomas' shorthanded goal at 18:26. He finished off a pass from Buchnevich on a 2-on-1 rush for his seventh.

The Canadiens controlled the second period while outshooting the Blues 9-4, but Husso kept them off the scoreboard. Petry nearly put the Canadiens on top with 12:24 left in regulation, but he rang a slap shot off the right post. Laurent Dauphin had a shorthanded breakaway for Montreal with 4:26 left, but Husso stopped him.

Buchnevich put the Blues ahead 2-1 with 1:19 remaining in regulation with his 16th of the season, a one-timer blast from the bottom of the right faceoff circle off a pass from Vladimir Tarasenko, only to have the Canadiens rally.

Canadiens forward Joel Armia was knocked out of the game in the third period after suffering a facial laceration from Thomas' skate blade.
