Last Meeting ( Nov 14, 2006 ) San Jose St. 52, Stanford 73

Stanford forward Oscar da Silva has struggled out of the gate this season, but coach Jerod Haase remains confident in the 6-9 sophomore. After scoring a season-high 16 points in last Saturday’s 78-62 win over Eastern Washington, da Silva looks to build on the performance Tuesday against visiting San Jose State.

A German native who shot 51 percent last season, da Silva made three 3-pointers against Eastern Washington after going 3-for-28 from beyond the arc in Stanford’s previous eight games. The Cardinal took Kansas to overtime and then had two weeks off for final exams before trailing at the half against Eastern Washington. “I’d say overall I’m disappointed,” Haase told reporters after the game. “I don’t think we played effectively. We weren't the aggressor for most of the game and I didn’t think our communication was at a high level.” The Cardinal aim for a more complete effort against San Jose State, which was picked to finish last in the Mountain West after going 4-25 last season.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, Pac-12 Network

ABOUT SAN JOSE STATE (3-6): Junior forward Michael Steadman averages 13.1 points and 9.2 rebounds to lead the Spartans, who have won two straight following a six-game losing streak. The 6-10 junior college transfer has three double-doubles while scoring in double figures in eight games, including seven straight. Steadman was benched in the first half of last Saturday’s 79-74 win over Northern Arizona for disciplinary reasons, but guard Noah Baumann and center Oumar Barry scored a combined 40 points to help the Spartans post their season scoring high against a Division I opponent.

ABOUT STANFORD (5-4): Sophomore point guard Daejon Davis had 19 points and five assists in Saturday’s victory while freshman Cormac Ryan added 12 points on four 3-pointers and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. Sophomore wing KZ Okpala averages a team-high 15.9 points on 48.9 percent shooting but was limited by foul trouble against Eastern Washington and finished with seven points in 22 minutes. Sophomore guard Isaac White has made a case for more playing time after averaging 10 points and shooting 6-of-10 from 3-point range over the past two games.
