Philadelphia @ Atlanta preview

Turner Field

Last Meeting ( Oct 1, 2010 ) Philadelphia 11, Atlanta 5

The Philadelphia Phillies prevented the Atlanta Braves from securing a postseason berth on Friday.

They'll look to do the same on a day that the Braves honor veteran manager Bobby Cox with a pregame ceremony.

Rookie right-hander Vance Worley will get the call in place of Roy Halladay as the NL East champion Phillies (96-64) face the Braves (90-70) on Saturday in the second contest of their three-game series at Turner Field.

Atlanta saw its magic number to secure a berth in the playoffs remain at two following Friday's 11-5 loss to Philadelphia and a 6-4 victory by the San Diego Padres (89-71) over the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants (91-69) later on Friday.

Jimmy Rollins provided the honors in Friday's tilt by belting a grand slam and Ryan Howard added a two-run single in the lopsided victory.

Raul Ibanez, Carlos Ruiz and Ben Francisco slapped RBI singles and rookie Domonic Brown and Chase Utley had bases-loaded walks as NL East champion Philadelphia improved to 18-4 in its last 22 games.

Derrek Lee blasted a three-run double and drove in five in a losing effort for Atlanta, while honor the 69-year-old Cox prior to the contest.

The Braves are expected to have former players pay a visit for an emotional ceremony prior to the contest.

With Halladay slated to start Game 1 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday, Worley (1-1, 2.25 ERA) was tabbed to make his best pitch on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Worley dropped his lone start of the season, but has made three other appearances out of the bullpen. In his last outing, he pitched one scoreless inning of relief in a 7-3 loss to the New York Mets on Sunday.

Atlanta will counter with Tommy Hanson (10-11, 3.41 ERA), who continues to receive little run support despite 19 quality starts this season.

The 24-year-old right-hander has been handed a team-low 2.4 runs per start in 2010. In his last outing, Hanson permitted one run and five hits in 7 2/3 innings on Monday - but suffered a no-decision in as Atlanta scratched for a 2-1 victory over the Florida Marlins.

He has pitched well against the Phillies this season, posting a 1-0 mark with a 1.56 ERA in three starts against Charlie Manuel's club.

Then again, a lack of run support came back to bite him as he tossed six scoreless innings to receive a no-decision in a 1-0 loss to the Phillies on Sept. 22.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
