Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets Box Score on Aug 02, 2018

Johan Camargo's two-run double capped a three-run Atlanta third inning Thursday night, and the visiting Braves hung on to beat the New York Mets 4-2 in the opener of a four-game series at Citi Field.

The Braves won their fourth straight. The Mets have lost three in a row and five of six.

Mike Foltynewicz (8-7) earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over six innings. Jesse Biddle and Brad Brach each threw a scoreless inning before A.J. Minter earned his seventh save by working around a leadoff walk.

Each team scored a run before recording an out in the first inning.

Atlanta's Ronald Acuna Jr. led off with a triple and scored on Ozzie Albies' single. The Mets tied the score when Brandon Nimmo homered on Foltynewicz's second pitch.

The Braves took advantage of some questionable fielding by the Mets to break the tie in the third. Acuna singled and appeared to be picked off by Jason Vargas, but first baseman Wilmer Flores' throw to second base was high and drew shortstop Jose Reyes off the bag as Acuna was credited with a stolen base.

Acuna advanced to third on a fly out by Albies and scored on Freddie Freeman's single. One out later, Adam Duvall walked before Camargo laced his double to right-center field.

The Mets pulled within 4-2 in the fifth, when Reyes doubled with one out and scored on pinch hitter Luis Guillorme's single. But New York could get no closer despite getting a runner on base in three of the final four innings.

Albies and Acuna each had two hits for Atlanta, and Flores went 2-for-3 with a walk for New York.

Vargas (2-7) gave up four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over five innings.
