Pittsburgh Pirates vs Cincinnati Reds Box Score on Aug 07, 2021

Jesse Winker connected for his 23rd home run and matched a career-high with six RBIs to power the Cincinnati Reds to another rout of the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, 11-3, on Saturday night.

Joey Votto and Nick Castellanos also homered while Jonathan India reached base four times for the surging Reds, who have won 11 of 15 and are a season-high nine games over .500 at 60-51.

Votto and Winker now share the lead in home runs for the Reds, who have outscored the Pirates 28-7 in the first three games of the series, and 58-15 in six games this season in Cincinnati.

Rookie right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez (7-3) struck out six and scattered six hits while allowing just one run over six innings, marking his fifth quality start in his past six outings for the Reds.

Bryan Reynolds singled, tripled and crushed a 420-foot two-run homer and drove in all three runs for the Pirates, who have lost eight of their nine meetings with the Reds this season and have dropped 14 of 19 overall.

Gutierrez helped his own cause immensely when he picked off runners in the second and third innings.

With one out in the second, Anthony Alford doubled to left center. But Alford strayed too far off the bag and Gutierrez ran at Alford before throwing to third baseman Mike Moustakas. That began an extended rundown play that didn't end until Joey Votto tagged out an exhausted Alford who fell to the ground between shortstop and third.

The pickoff required seven throws before the out was recorded.

In the third, the Pirates grabbed their first lead in the series when Reynolds tripled down the right field line, scoring Ke'Bryan Hayes, who had doubled. The Pirates lost a potential run earlier in the inning when Hoy Park singled with one out before being picked off first.

The Reds immediately responded against starter Mitch Keller (3-9). With one out, Winker doubled home Shogo Akiyama to tie the game, 1-1. Castellanos, who had been hitless in eight at-bats since coming off the injured list Thursday, singled sharply on a grounder to left to score India and give the Reds the lead for good, 2-1.

Castellanos connected for his first homer since July 10 at Milwaukee when he lined a Keller pitch over the right field wall and onto the top of the Pirates bullpen for a 4-1 advantage.
